Since someone brought his time at Benfica up, he did knock the RS out of the CL when they were the holders. Lost in the QF to Barcelona.

As i wrote to goat before, the fans were looking at that squad and season before and expecting a challenge at the top and champions league run.
Instead he finished bottom of the group and 2pts off relegation in his time. No one seemed fussed about the cup.
I guess if you are 3rd favourites for the league then you would be upset and angry.
Last season most said that even if martinez won the fa cup they would want him sacked....so i think league place is more of a barometer with a cup as a bonus.
Valencia had a great squad and expectations were high. Koeman was like their mike walker in terms of results and dislike.
We cherished the cup win with royle as he turned us around quickly with low expectations....it would have been different if we were expecting a title push.

Im 99% sure benfica won the league either side of his tenure as they had the best squad at the time

They won it the year before he arrived yes, but didn't win it again until 2009/10. Porto were the better team for the whole decade, by far. Sporting were good until around 2006/07.
Koeman's team that finished 3rd actually got more points than the Trappatoni side that won it the year before as well.

Judt checked and youre right! Tbh i think that was the time nuno gomes (the only centre forward portugal seem to have had in ages) was scoring for fun in the league. He had some top players there like our old fave manny fernandes and others like that greek midfielder and luisau (sp)....robert from newcastle too.

If it was Martinez it would be 1 point from 9, if we were lucky. I've said it before on here but Koeman takes no crap that has to make a difference in performances.
