Ronald Koeman discussion

Lets face it, we are on a dreadful trot.

But today we played well. We carried a goal threat, and on another day, could have walked out with 1, maybe, at a stretch, 3 points. They scored a worldy on 3 minutes, and 3 in the last 5 minutes or so. One a mistake, one a pen, one dead scruffy. Not like we were carved open.

We were awful in Italy mind. IMO, Koeman will sort this. Signs were there today. Just had one of them days.
Just a question roydo, how many times can you say a 4-0 defeat was just 'one of them days?'.

There is signs which are positive but how long genuinely can you give a manager yo get it right? Remember Jose and Chelsea a couple of years back? As much as Chelsea were champions there wasn't any turning it around for jose. What point in the season realistically do we see That?

A few wins out of the next 4 and all of a sudden we gave a season again so I hope we are sitting here in a few weeks bemoaning our had luck.

But just as it occurred to me, Martinez last season was bad luck and one of those days at the start of the season, then we went into new year with like 5 wins and 3 of them were the bottom 3, just all of us hoping and praying it was just bad luck.

KOEMAN

In football sometimes you get more than you deserve. Today, we deserved more than we got.

At 1-0, Ashley Williams makes a big mistake, and after that it was over. But what I saw from the team today makes me happier than last Thursday.

After half time, a really difficult start, we grew in our game and confidence. Not many teams will get the two big chances that we did today, twice one against one against De Gea, but we didn't score the goal.

It's not ambition. It's confidence. It's confidence of the players and the team. We tried to get higher but it's something that's in the head of the players after a tough period.

As a manager you try to help them, but after the whistle we started too afraid.

After that we pressed and after that you see that United are not that 'big' team, which is difficult to say because we lost 4-0.

In football you need to be clinical. united showed us how clinical you have to be. If you're not and you make mistakes, then you can't do anything against a defeat.

Now we need to win the next coming days. Realistically, we knew before the start of the season we did not expect to get nine points out of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

But every game is difficult. We have four home games and we need to win, or we have problems.
The lineup he started screamed being too afraid, can't see how that showed him giving/having confidence in the players.

Spot on. I think we were alright up till Williams's idiotic mistake.

We had no luck in other aspect.

What is it us about the "Burnley idolising" you don't like?

Is it that the hard facts contained in the results they are achieving totally negates the defence put forward by the Koemantonians?

The hard fact is they beat chelsea when chelsea had two sent off.
The hard fact is they lost at home to West Brom without a shot on target.

I think we may well have plenty of (one of them days under Koeman) we may scrape wins but IMO I don't think things are going to get much better here than when Moyes was here, that's about as good as we will get with Koeman in charge

Not one for knee-jerk reactions either but I thought all along since the Chelsea game that we will never go anywhere as a club if our custodians don't uphold and enforce standards in how we play and results.

Why on earth should we consider the last 4 league games as some sort of free pass? What is the point at all if we don't wish to compete with and beat these sides and when we don't, what are we going to do about it?

If we don't insist on better and be bold then we'll remain in the rut we have been in for 25 years.

Daniel Levy took action in getting rid of Villas-Boas after a 0-5 reverse against Liverpool. Free pass? Absolutely not, and look where that attitude has taken them since.

A 1-10 aggregate in these 4 games is just frankly embarrassing. We had our fun with signings in pre-season but it actually hurts that fans of the sides we as fans aspire to compete with can look at us and just see how abysmal we are.

Thing is, Bournemouth and Burnley aren't going to roll over to accomodate Koeman and even winning those games, well, so what in effect if longer-term damage has been done over the last fortnight.

It just feels we have been put very firmly back in our box again.

On balance, and if we can afford it, I would pay Koeman off. There is a ceiling with him and we are not going to break through it under his management. More positively, I think it would say loud and clear that 0-12 in four games is just not acceptable, and never can be at EFC.

But lads we're only 5 games in blah blah blah

Nah not having that, look gutless and void of ideas and a manager that had no idea what tactics to play.

I would imagine if we beat Sunderland, Bournemouth and Burnley mate, we will have the apologists on calling out the 'bedwetters' about how they knew Koeman would get it right, and why they now can see us challenging the top 6, etc. Then when we get beat again, words like 'gel' will suddenly appear.

We absolutely deserved to get beat 4-0 today.

We made loads of mistakes, lets not pretend Williams was the only one, Pickford, Jagielka, Keane all made awful passes in our defence that were not punished.

We had a handful of half chances and that's it. They did not have to get out of first gear.

And a game lasts 90 minutes, not 80. Just because we did OKish for 80 minutes does not mean that the last ten didn't happen and does not count in the "deserved result" stakes.

Utter embarrassments the lot of them.

I got to 'winnable games' and stopped. Sorry mate.

Not scored for 4 games. Barely a shot on target in all 4 of those games. Knee jerk after watching the 8 games so far this season ?

Formations all over the place. Hasn't a clue who our best 11 is. Hasn't a clue who should play where. Weird tactics.

Aye

8 games, new squad, difficult fixtures. I'd say your reaction was pretty knee jerk. You're acting like the world has caved in and we're doomed to relegation.

If we go on a good run over the coming weeks (perfectly feasible this could happen) you'll have calmed down a lot.

This is the low point in my opinion. Slow and gradual progess but nowhere near challenging the top six. Just wish once in a while we could get that 'didn't expect that result!' We seem to get what we expect - zilch. especially away from home.

Koeman ain't going anywhere yet.
Moshiri has already formed out millions firing one manager. He won't be keen to do it again so soon.

Think the time to judge him and the team properly is after the next 5 games (including Sunderland), not these last 5. Not saying I'm not concerned, but there are at least some mitigating factors, not least the absolutely horrendous fixture list we've had to face.

Not giving him an excuse, we've been worse than crap. But let's see how we get on now.
