Ronald Koeman discussion

Corky, before Ferguson won his first league title circa 1993, we had been champions more times than United.

Criminal the way this club was allowed to decline in the 1990s and into the millennium.

30 years have been pretty much wasted since 1987.All we can do is hope to see Everton be Everton again. That is something that i doubt will happen with Ronald Koeman as our manager sadly.

I hear ya, Bike.

The only reason I don't want him fired today is because someone on another forum told me a couple years ago that EFC was only three bad managerial appointments away from becoming Aston Villa.

And firing the first one after about sixteen months is taking us too far down that road for comfort :(
Think about how long Villa kept faith with Lambert and the effect that had. Bottom line you need to do a fair bit of due diligence before you appoint a manager. All of Koeman's failings were there to see if you looked properly. One of the reasons why I'd be happy to sack him right now is that we'd get this season to see how Unsworth performed and if he's up to the job long term.

Sadly I fear that unless we have an Evertonian in charge any manager we have dill have this attitude. It's probably only Redknapp out of the current managers who recognise Everton as a significant force in football, the rest have now grown up weened on a diet of Liverpool/United/Chelsea. They are unable to tap into the psyche of the Everton supporter. Moyes was bewildered why uscfans wanted better than 5th or to win at places like Old Trafford. Koeman is the same, he thinks we're privileged just to have him and if he bores us into 7th then he'll see it as job done because in his eyes we have no right to expect higher.

Any manager who comes in and starts doing well will have the Martinez effect. That first season when he had stuff to prove, so did Lukaku, so did Barkley, it was great. Then all of a sudden everyone treated us like a stepping stone, Lukaku Stones Barkley all had eyes for other places, Martinez was being touted for Arsenal or Barca. A club can't operate this way and be successful, half the squad think they're too good for the club, the other half resent the players who are only playing for themselves.

It can't help the harmony in the squad when every man and his dog knows that Koeman thinks he's too good to be here and as soon as he does anything if more he'll be off.

I really think to get back to winning, after Koeman goes (not that I'm advocating this now) we need someone 100% commited to the club. Not someone who has a dream to manage United or Barcelona or grew up in awe of Liverpool. We need someone who realises the peak of their career will becrrsurrrcting Everton, who gives out a message to the players and the media that he is here to win. We can't have another stepping stone manager who thinks he's doing us a favour. As soon as Moyes/Martinez/Koeman thought they'd proven themselves enough and that we owed them for being here they went down the pan. We need someone who recognises that it is a privilege to manage us and that they have to strive for the best all the time. I genuinely think we need someone from this parish but it could work if the right manager was out there and got taken in by us.

That's a terrific post, in my opinion.

Written with passion and feeling, something we haven't truly seen from a manager for at least the last six years.

Moyes showed it occasionally, like when he fronted up to Mancini at the Etihad.

When have we ever had a manager who would run down the touch line like Mourinho did at Anfield ?

Howard Kendall advised the Bayern Munich manager to go forth and procreate on that wonderful ECWC semi-final night, but even Howie stopped short of being 100% demonstrative.

The problem though as rightly pointed out, is there isn't exactly a long queue of former players with managerial experience to choose from in the event RoKo leaves or is sacked early.

David Unsworth is the obvious leading contender.

If the club were to consider the former Evertonian who gets the club route, whoever it is would ideally need to have the kind of Nothing but Winning attitude that Big Nev refers to when he speaks/tweets.

Our greatest ever goalie is 100% right when he tweets that we've been brainwashed into accepting/believing that fourth is success.

It's not "the Everton way" but, I wouldn't say no to us having a manager who is or can be a snarling nark... If he's winning us games AND getting a better style of footie to watch, then winding the opposition and media up is a bonus.

Best English manager ever, Brian Clough was never afraid to speak his mind and he won enough and in style didn't he ?

The game has changed and we need to change with it.

Yes, we have our history and we're rightly proud of it and should never forget it, but by the time BMD comes on stream, we need to be right up there and exacting severe and painful revenge on the so-called 'big six' and all the rest for all the years of stagnation, defeats and humiliation we've endured...

No more knife to a gunfight mentality, no more settling for fourth as the goal, and never, ever the 40 points is our first target defeatist attitude.

Nil Satis Nisi Optimum... and anyone, absolutely anyone in the club in whatever role from tea lady to Chairman who can't deliver that or want to be a part of it or accept being the best is the very least they and we will accept should pack their bags and ship out !!

Yay to that, Andy

Our board don't care about any of that. If they were serious they wouldn't give negative, bottling losers 11 seasons. You can't claim to be a big club but have a board who act like a run of the mill midtable side.

It's all about ££££££. Success irrelevant to the bunch of charlatans.

A quote from Kevin Ratcliffe on the red rag website.

Ronald Koeman will know all about the quality of the players he has bought this summer.

But now is when he finds out about their character.

Those players have to step forward now and prove themselves.

Players who have come from teams where they have been a big star have suddenly realised this is the real world now.

I’ve seen players in the past come from smaller clubs, like your West Hams, and struggle to handle the elevated expectations at Goodison Park.

Evertonians don’t like losing.

Lesser teams may accept defeat more, but it’s a completely different mentality at Everton Football Club. You are not expected to lose games whether you are playing champions Chelsea, Manchester United or Atalanta in the Europa League.

Arriving at everton you are taken out of your comfort zone and quite a few of the players we have bought in the last few years are discovering that now.

They now have to show us what they are made of.

The subtext to 'afraid to play' is to shift responsibility on to players and, to some extent, fans - toxic atmosphere etc. He's world class at hiding his own shortcomings.

It's obvious he's not a top manager but can't see him going before end of the season. His team's always have appalling runs of form but he usually gets it back on track, although it'll be painful to watch.

It'll be a mid table slog, few goals and sweating on wins against teams in bottom half.
