Ronald Koeman discussion

He didnt really. Well kind of.

Statistically yes this is true but it also came at the expense of other parts of the team. At the end of the day when push came to shove and we needed our defence to stand up and be counted it didn't happen.

To be fair that's not his fault either, it happened under Martinez, it happened under Moyes.

No, you're right.

Among the many prescient things @davek pointed out last season, the actual defenders did not concede too many goals because of the extra bodies stuck in front of them.

They had less attacks to defend.

Thus season the defensive guard has been absolutely useless and the defenders are being left exposed more and getting roasted :(

None of us believed the players were garbage when we were signing them.

Koeman improved our defence last season by a mile. Its there to see.

We lost Coleman, didn't replace him. That was wrong.

We did not strengthen the LB and CB area either and are paying for our lack of depth there. Last season we were lucky we didn't had a settled defence.

This form of our has been horrendous. Some of our big players are playing like a shadow of themselves. Its a very difficult moment. Koeman needs to improve his tactics and management and the players need to up their game. I'd prefer Gibson over Schniderlim at this time cos of his forward intent.

Unless we are sure we have a definite plan if we sack him, I say we stick together and ride out the storm.

i dont agree he improved the defence by a mile last season. he plonked two DMs in front of them and the team played more defensively. better stats were always likely.

our actual defensive unit was still not very good.

Think it's more that the first season we had no real system/style of play that was discernible, especially away from home and a lot of that was attributed by people to having Lukaku there who 'is not a Koeman system player'

Now we got rid of him, spunked a shed-load of money on about 8-9 new first team players, played 14 games and a pre season with them, yet I'd wager not one of us have a clue what we are actually trying to do or how we are trying to play. That's absolutely terrible management, we are a loss to Lyon away from effectively being out of Europe only half way through the group stage, we are looking woeful in the league, and even the cup progress is tempered by the fact we have Chelsea away in the next round so can expect an absolute bumming of a Purple Aki magnitude.

Right now, Tuchel and Ancelotti are both available, unless Bayern go for Tuchel ofc, IF we have the genuine ambition that Moshiri has stated we do, approach both of them - see if one bites (although think both would want assurances of serious funding)

I think Koeman is one of those managers who does well with low expectation - indeed maybe exceeds them - like us last year and Saints in both seasons there, his time in Holland he done well with a complete underdog and besides that managed Ajax and PSV - who a blind dog could have challenging for the title lets face it, both clubs he managed in leagues where they weren't the best team but had the expectation to challenge near the top - Benfica and Valencia he failed dramatically at, even cup wins at both couldn't save his job that appalling was the league form and style of play at both.

Ancelotti would be a no brainer - an absolutely top manager, Tuchel - some doubts over, but did very well at Mainz and did well at Dortmund - tempered with his falling out with senior figures at the club over having to sell players (but he does develop young players and for us that is a massive plus) - also plays a very attractive style that is suited to this league

Does anyone really believe that Ancelotti would come here ?
You know, hand on heart really, why would he ?

You said yourself, they would both want assurance of serious funding, and, to an extent, they'd get that, but nowhere near the level of funding that ManU, Citeh, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are likely to get.

When there was talk of sixty million being spent on a striker, you, quite rightly, knocked the idea down as being crazy. What you're hoping for on the manager front is no different to that.

thing is he saw us and him being here as that as well - stepping stone, he was always with his personality - doing a job here with no connection really made or wanted by him it appears, to be on thin ice, succeed - yes the fans will back you, but start struggling and their is no love for him amongst the supporters - and thats of his own making really.

Same way no one really shed tears at certain players leaving - because they never really got the club - and it was just a means to an end.

Totally agree with you on that. It's impossible to really warm to the guy, but as well as being a club we love, it's also a business, so hiring and firing decisions won't take much notice of that

What's tremendously sad is we have two excellent prospects in Keane and Pickford who aren't being helped at all by so called experienced defenders.

1st April Liverpool 3–1 Everton
4 April 201731 Manchester United 1–1 Everton
9 April 201732 Everton 4–2 Leicester City
15 April 201733 Everton 3–1 Burnley
22 April 201734 West Ham United 0–0 Everton
30 April 201735 Everton 0–3 Chelsea
6 May 201736 Swansea City 1–0 Everton
12 May 201737 Everton 1–0 Watford
21 May 201738 Arsenal 3–1 Everton

12 August 20171 Everton 1–0 Stoke City
21 August 20172 Manchester City 1–1 Everton
27 August 20173 Chelsea 2–0 Everton
9 September 20174 Everton 0–3 Tottenham Hotspur
17 September 20175 Manchester United 4–0 Everton
23 September 20176 Everton 2–1 AFC Bournemouth
1 October 20177 Everton 0v1 Burnley

16 league games since April
Won 5
Drawn 3
Lost 8

Definitely on a downward spiral

Last 12 games - 6 goals scored, 19 conceded, played 12, won 3, drew 2, lost 7. Basically relegation form over the period of 1/3rd of a season

Hand on heart - nope he probably wouldn't - because i suspect we wouldn't offer him what he would require in terms of funding in January and next summer.

I never thought the fat Spanish waiter would go Newcastle either though mate. So strange things can happen, most likely though is Ancelotti waits a month or two for the AC mentalist owners to sack their manager and goes back to them.
