Ronald Koeman discussion

Look, all I'm saying is that players of that notoriety (I wouldn't say calibre even for Witsel because I dont rate him...he's well overhyped) are going to play the field and keep clubs like ours on a piece of string as back up. That's all.

Not exactly an outrageous p.o.v.
That's a change of tune, given that when I first brought up the point and then subsequently, you said it was 'fantasy' and I'd been somehow taken in by Moshiri???

Maybe the reason the likes of Witsel would try and keep us 'on a string' is that we had no European football on offer and were a side who finished in the bottom half 2 years running........just a thought like.

Dreaming of us being able to one day sign players the calibre of Mata. If we somehow poached him in January, I'd happily shunt Barkley to the bench for the rest of the season.
I think it'd allow Barkley to start further back.

Barry and Gueye are good destroyers (Barry a bit more than that like), but we should be using different cm combinations to suit our task with different opponents. Gueye and Barkley would be a good blend to counter the muscle/creativity in the engine room of elite club teams. Have some insurance with Gueye, but have Barkley there able to make those clubs pay for their adventurism by carrying the ball from deep when they over commit, as they usually do.

Mata in a front three for Everton would be a great idea, imo. Up to now I dont see us really using the two wingers Koeman includes to great effect. It's usually just Bolasie carrying the attack as far as I see. We could leave Mirallas and Deulofeu on the bench and go with Bollasie-Lukaku-Mata or even go with a diamond with Mata playing in behind Bolasie/Lukaku.

Moshiri has it all to do. Done nothing yet and I think you give him a free pass. That was the point. Sustained, I think.

If we need players and the money is there why don't you see us buying in January. Surely that's a good time to get players at champions league teams who are either out of favour or been knocked out of the competition.
If we are there or thereabouts come January, then I think we will invest to push for a top 4 spot. The difference is from the moyes era (when we regularly in touch with the top 4) is that we have the funds to do it.

I think for many the fact that he promised greater spending (still does) by virtue of superior wealth to Kenwright, sacked an increasingly unpopular manager and publicly chased and secured a manager that many fans and media consider to be elite, while not earth shattering, is hardly 'nothing'.

He spent no money, had a negative net spend in fact and him sacking a manager that was terrible for two years doesn't impress me. This summer has exposed Moshiri for the chancer he is.

That's just normal operating activity for a team that sacks one manager and employs another.

There really has been nothing earth shattering so far. Will this feller eventually step up? Quite possibly. But so far I'd mark him at 4/10.

You were fulsome in your praise of Martinez after a 0-0 draw at Cardiff, yet this guy gives us our best start in almost 40 years and he only gets a 4/10, to think it was on 6 months ago you said

'God bless you Roberto Martinez'

After a 3-1 win at Villa (terrible version of Villa)

Yet 4/10?

Laughable, it's also quite interesting that on Saturday after a 3-1 victory over Boro, you managed 1 post in this thread all night, yet you've been on the rampage for days after his first defeat, waiting to pounce, I said straight away that it was your time and to embrace it, you told me to 'pack it in' looks like I was right and you simply couldn't wait to dig your claws in, fortunately I doubt anyone will take it too seriously.

What's it like hoping Everton lose so you can vent your spleen? I know your likely answer will be that I did it with El Pricko, but it wouldn't be true as I enjoyed every victory under RM, no matter how rare. I may have even started a thread on it, yet you have nothing good to say about Everton when they win and seem to revel in the bad times.

Odd odd behaviour. But different strokes for different folks, I hope we put in a full 90 minute performance at Bournemouth and have a nice and comfortable win. You may even raise your score to 4.25/10 although I doubt you'll even post.

Unless we lose of course.....

Playing Devil's Advocate here, but we signed Gueye

The Gueye deal was done quite a way after the initial Witsel reports

How do we know he wasn't the one we lined up?
We don't. We don't KNOW anything apart from that Gueye, Williams, Bolasie and Stek signed. I think that's the point people are trying to make when people say the money is there when we don't know that for sure.

Mata would do a better job than anyone we have in the last third. I think we can all see Barkley will never be a classic #10. I cant think of a player like that off the top of my head we've had since Beardsley.
And Witsel while I agree he doesn't overly impress me is certainly better than Cleverly or Gibson as backup or a replacement for Barry.
