Ronald Koeman discussion

So a point against city is not good enough now?? Because he setup an absolute defensive rock people are moaning.

Even Pep congratulated us for being so well organised but it's not good enough for people on here.

Should have tried to play city at their game and got beat 8-0, at least we would have tried eh lads???

We barely got out of our own half there last season and ground out a 0-0 draw, that's the funniest part. That was a tactical masterclass though.

You don't even know that we started the game with pressing tactics but Koeman seen that City were well onto how to exploit the space so he changed tactics straight away and got us a point, he nearly won it, Martinez would of been 3-0 down and still standing there with that utterly confused look on his face, you've proven that you know bugger all about football
Yes, we'd have been '3-0 down'.

We played City four times last season: lost the first, won the second, drew the third and lost the fourth.

We drew 0-0 in this fixture last season and we at least made a game of it.

Hiding behind the couch because it's City isn't impressive, it's shameful.

It was the same in pre season. Play anyone good we park the bus and hope Rom nicks a breakaway goal.

With our squad it's not hard to understand why he's doing it but like with Martinez there's absolutely no attempt to win the ball until they are in our final third. It's not giving our attackers a chance.
Martinez was slated for wanting to play a game without the players to carry the game plan out. Well what is the difference between that and a game plan that requires players who press from the front to make it work but not having those players?

What's sauce for the goose....

Barkley has hurt City in every game he's played against them in my recollection. When your getting pinned as much as we were throwing him in could have put doubt in their minds and had them going the other way.

The day called for a bold decision. What we got was a decision to stick and hold on for dear life. It got us an unlikely point. Just.

Dave; The fact is we're not ready to go toe to toe with City and play you score 3 and we'll score 4.
The difference between
Moyes - who wouldn't even attempt it
and
Martinez - who would.
and
Koeman - who does know we're not ready yet.

Would actually like to see Tom Davies come into the side alongside Gueye. At least he has some aggression. We have been found out in recent games by sides who know our midfield cannot match most sides if they up the tempo. We are too reliant on our solid defence and great striker. The reality is that there's only been a few halves of football this season where we've controlled the game.

I'm very happy with a point yesterday mate, and sometimes needs must, but from what I can remember from that 0-0 draw last season we had a go at City, and were actually the better team first half in that game, and with better finishing we would have gone in leading at half time, second half was all Man City (think City should have had a pen as well) and we couldn't get out of our own half, but if you look at the possession in that game we had 45%, yesterday we had 28% possession, but as I mentioned yesterday, possession doesn't count for much if you can't put the ball in the back of the net.

Had Moyes done what Koeman did yesterday he'd have been slaughtered. That's the truth, fans have one lens for him and one for Koeman. Martinez did it loads as well, the City game last season, most of the Derby games that didn't end with us getting turned over 4-0. The common theme is a paucity of quality amongst the playing squad meaning managers having to revert to basics just to get any result. Until Koeman's brings in players in every position with pace, power, height, and creativity, we won't be able to consistently match top sides.

We swarmed all over them at Goodison to beat City last season. If Celtic can knock three past them and Swansea boss them for most of their home game then it's beyond belief we offered only rearguard resistance.

They were all away games Dave. We've just taken a point off them at their ground, where the rest of league will struggle to stop them scoring at least 2.

Last season being the operative words; They've improved a lot - we've only improved a little...but we have improved and in the next 2 seasons we'll hopefully improve some more.
Swansea and Celtic were at home and we were away - apples and oranges...Spurs were at home as well.

Much has been said of this upgrade, but City are only one point ahead where they were this time last season when everyone was raving on them as odds on to win the title. The truth is that Guardiola has done well since coming in by keeping the plate spinning...they haven't lost momentum.

I heard Koeman post match yesterday and his words about this City team being 'the best he's ever faced' sounded like a convenient fig leaf to hide an overtly rearguard exercise on his behalf.
