Ronald Koeman discussion

I can't criticise much about Koeman's approach. Actually, barely anything - he's done very well with the tools at his disposal.

What I can note is the the movement in the final third when the midfield have the ball is absolutely shocking at times. I think that's because he's seen just how bad we were under Martinez in terms of organisation and, particularly, getting caught out of position, that the first priority for the team now is to start a game solidly and don't be out of the game by the hour mark - so the whole side seems allergic to making a move out of position until later in the game.

By and large, that has worked, but it has meant that we've looked pretty unspectacular this season because everything is rigid. But it was the right thing to do by the manager coming in to work with that squad.

I don't believe we're necessarily playing to what Koeman envisages in the long term, and we'll probably see a different Everton this time next season, due to the transfer window, increased fitness and confidence, and so on.

Don't be so reasonable and realistic. It's much more fun to be outraged that we aren't the second coming of Brazil 1970.

But ok, this is football.

Things will improve, hes making us more solid as a unit, then in time we will sign some options further forward, maybe somebody like Strootman, Witsel, somebody to drive from midfield, somebody with a bit more energy and drive than Barry, totally not a dig at Gaz Baz, he does his job, just a different option, BESIC!!!!!!!! Then he cant be happy with Superkev, you know me, I love the boy and hes playing with energy, but its not working for him and as you pointed out in the SuperYannick thread, the other wingers arent great.

And of course another option for Ross and Ron, who both showed their best sides in the 2nd half, but ya know, its all about options.

So its pretty much what I wanted in the summer, bar another wing option a number 8, a number 9, a number 10.

Basically can sum up everything I wrote with two words.

Needs must.

It's a results business, and Koeman is focusing on that at the mo - can't blame him. It really is silly to say what we're seeing now is reflective of what we will be next year - it's the very definition of a transition season.

Thank you Tubey. That word "rigid" is perfect to describe it. There's little fluidity and it's jarring to watch.

The 'kin state of that ^^^.

It's not about formations it's about transitions and how quickly you get up and into gear with them. At the moment we are terrible at it and resort to balls out from deep to Bolasie and hope Lukaku is in a jovial mood to get along side him and support him. Watch Liverpool yesterday. They were superb at ramming Palace's attempts to get at them down their throat by carrying it from deep and by a lot of movement from the front three. They make us look pedestrian and clueless.

They are 10months and a transfer window further ahead of us.

The boy Plopp uses the same tactics as Ronny, our boy Ross made that Brazilan midget look 3rd rate today.

Claiming their title win is not an achievement is just daft. It's insane.

If we ever win the league, are you seriously going to question whether it's actually a good achievement? I usually agree with you Dave but you've lost me here.

It's an achievement, and of course I'd celebrate us becoming champions. But it'd be a title that wouldn't be fit to sit beside the 80s titles (or the Catterick ones as far as I can gather).

Gana coupled with a powerhouse box to box centre mid would bring this team on massively, don't think we have a snowball in hells chance but someone like strootman would improve us beyond belief.

That and a genuine second striker of a bit of quality are the two biggest holes in an otherwise pretty decent team.

Besic as I know you love him could end up as the backup to gana mate, on his best form he's probably the more similar in style out of the centre mids we have

That's a ban surely? Unbelievable .
There's no shame in saying they've played very good football under Klopp. They always look to attack. I'm sorry, I cant stand them more than anyone, but it has to be said they have a fine manager who looks to play this game in a very attractive way. I wish he was our manager, that's for sure.

:eek::eek::eek:

I accept they play well, but seeing them play well makes me hate them even more. I don't enjoy it one bit. I despise it.
It makes me angry to watch them. Even when gnashers was knocking over teams you just knew it was down to the dark genius of Sewerez and laughed. But not now. This is a seriously good manager at the peak of his powers.

As I said last night: I hope Bayern are readying themselves to punt Ancelotti and get Klopp in. If Bayern fall short of the CL again this season they may well do that.

It obviously isn't mate, we have players learning an entire new style of play who need the time to adapt or prove they can't and in which case will need replacing, we also need a genuine transfer period with us having a settled team doing the business rather than trying to fix the recruitment structure whilst bringing players in. Walsh is here now and Koeman and both wil l have we can hope settled and will be much more able to conduct proper deals than the summer gone.

We will never be gung ho under koeman, but we will over time become more like his prior team but with a better team and ability to recruit due to improved status and financial backing.

There can be no criticising the points tally. It's been a very impressive start. I do think there;s an exaggeration though that we have to wait until we get it completely spot on before we see anything like an attractive team with good movement going forward. I dont buy that. At times this season we've been criminally unambitious in games and we dont need to. And it isn't down to the personnel either. This lot showed under Martinez they have good movement going forward.

The whole of that stems from the fact Koeman really hasn't sorted us defensively yet: yes, we're more secure. However, thats because we commit a lot of bodies in our own half behind the ball rather than a manager sorting that back four out. I'am CONVINCED that's where our lack of ambition in games comes from. The biggest job he has therefore is to get a better, more well drilled defence together this summer...and a top class keeper.

The defence he has is the second best in terms of conceding goals and top five for conceding shots on target.

Seem pretty well drilled to me. I think personally he will go for two full backs who can defend and attack.

So essentially you're saying here is that stylishly finishing runners up is something you would prefer to winning the league in a less aesthetically pleasing manner.

That's some stylish popcorn right there Dave.
Ha Ha. No mate. I'm saying in a football sense our 1985/86 team pisses all over those Leicester nuggets from last season. And I'm dead right too.
