Ronald Koeman discussion

Gotta to dislike the above term. That reminds me of the crap spouting out of the clown's (you know who) mouth. If I am being honest I don't care as long as Everton win. I did not enjoy the game like losing 3-6 to Chelsea, 2-3 to West Ham or drawing 3-3 to Bournemouth in the last two seasons. It may be entertaining for the neutral but certainly not Evertonian. I rather we won West Ham 2-0 every week than these so called exciting football.
Mourinho said something similar at that Chelsea end of season awards a while back.
Something like 'people call us boring, but boring is going year after year and not winning anything'

As Napoleon said: " I have plenty of clever generals, but just give me a lucky one".

We should have been buried at City, Burnley should have been buried by us, West Ham won the first half, but didnt, we won the second, and did.

He is a difficult man to warm to, (unlike Martinez for the record), but he has a reassuring capability that I kinda like.

Cant recall the literary reference in some football book, but he is like a Step Father that you dont like, in an avuncular way, but you reckon he will be good to your Mum.

Strikes me as being like a surgeon, looking at the problem dispassionately.

I like this. I don't want a luvvie gushing over my detached testicle. I want someone with a plan to put it right.

Koeman is the teacher at school that was proper scary and you hated, but when you grew up you realised he was right all along and his strictness actually benefitted in helping round you into a better human being. Martinez is the one who just gave you a textbook to copy out of and sat at the front on his laptop while you all made paper aeroplanes and tipped all the chairs upside down.

Let's hope we don't end up his red headed step child battered from pillar to post.

Talking of testicles, when I had the grown up bloke oppo, it was deffo a Martinez who administered the pain relief! (Cant spell the proper word)

The groupthink here is weird.

We haven't been brilliant, and we're 6th. Is that better than Martinez? Yep. No doubt. Should we give Koeman more time? Yep, no doubt.

Are their some worrying signs? Yes. Unquestionably. We haven't put together a single 90 minutes of good football yet. We're winning, which is all that matters. But we've also ridden our luck a bit. If we keep riding our luck, it will eventually give way. I understand people preaching patience. But I don't understand the love-in for Koeman given our performances.

We need better players, and we need better football or we won't compete at the level we want to be competing.

Koeman being in for Sissoko has me worried about the level of player we'll be buying in the future.

I don't understand why all criticism of Koeman is met with 'LOL Martinez was awful' or 'we're 6th!'. Yeah, we're also 10 games in and have the tough fixtures beginning now. Let's see where we are by Christmas.

(He is a better manager than Martinez so far, no argument there).

I think I'm falling in love with him.

Have to agree with this. He isn't as alluring or enigmatic or animated as Guardiola, Mourihno, Klopp or Conte. There isn't really a recognised ''Koeman" style of football, it certainly isn't mentioned as much as other managers' play styles.

But he has a way of getting results. Sometimes it's pretty, sometimes it's ugly. His attitude towards Barkley sums his attitude. He has been blunt with him, some would say harsh. He and we know he has the flair, but if he's not working for the team he's not getting in team.

Koeman's redeeming quality that stands out is his assurance in his decisions. So far in his management I haven't seen a situation where he hasn't been assured. He doesn't panic. And when things don't go right he will account for it.

He doesn't have an exotic name, he doesn't have a exuberant character, and his football is more reserved than riveting. But I believe he's honest, instinctive and an efficient problem solver.

Modern football favours style over substance. But in some situations, style alone isn't going to win you football matches.

True, but let's worry about a drop in our league position if/when it happens. If a win can't be enjoyed then what's the point?

Football management is split into idealists and pragmatists - the age old struggle. Koeman is firmly in the latter camp. We had an idealist before him and a pragmatist before that. It'll be less of a bumpy ride, but probably a less exciting one.
