Ronald Koeman discussion

All things considered, our squad is absolutely nowhere near the level of the top 5 and it's up to Moshiri, Walsh & Koeman to sort it out.

Unless they can do that, then honestly what is the point in anything?
The first part is the truth. every year people keep saying " best squad in 20 years" "top 4 quality" when the squad just isnt nearly as good as we think it is. Rom is really all we have as a proven consistent quality. Ross struggles with consistency as does Kev and Del. Seamus' performances have dipped, Baines is struggling with injuries.

Absolutely agree. We are going to be 7th after today, we will rightly fully be behind:

Liverpool
Chelsea
City
Arsenal
Spurs
United

All teams that are significantly better than us. We need major player investment and clearing of deadwood. Unfortunately those are the facts. If we finish seventh this year it would be a good result looking at the players at our disposal. Everton are going to have to take some risks in the turnover of our squad with talent from lower leagues and hope they turn good or massively overpay. We have found it is hard to recruit someone like Mata to us given the current club status.
We do have a jewel in the crown and that is David Unsworth, he is doing s great job with the U23's.
My belief is RK will need to balance big money signings with the youth we have at our disposal, as I don't believe we will strengthen solely with new players.

I don't think even the most hardened Koeman sceptic expected that yesterday. We were outclassed by a superior team, that happens. But the effort was lacking which is my biggest gripe. Koeman has 2 weeks to sort it out and I expect a big reaction at home to the team who are heading bottom of the league as things stand.

Lets get a bit of perspective here though. We have been in far worse positions than we are now in the not too distant past and we're still in the hunt for a European spot. Compared to our previous games this season, that performance/defeat was very much the exception rather than the rule. Some of you are going very much overboard

Koeman is just going to play the same guys and use the same boring long ball...doing my head in.

None of his post match conferences are any admission of blame....'outclassed' means the players arent good enough...

How about his stupid tactics and not playing players on merit.

Its on his head.

Switching to 5 at the back was a wave the white flag moment straight away

Funny thing is it made us look even worse at the back after he'd told the world sorting our defence out wasn't that hard

Like yesterday, tactics were hoof it up to Lukaku and hope for the best.

Yep, i said in the match thread i was excited to see the 'Total Football' of long balls to Bolasie (what a waste of money) and Lukaku (not a target man).

Changing formation against Conte is pure stupidity...hes a superior manager and has had his system for years. Koeman hasnt got.a system....crazy.

Unless Lukaku leaves this won't happen, There's nothing to suggest it will

So because we couldn't sign Mata we have to look to the lower leagues?

Don't read more into what I was saying. I was using Mata as an example. We can keep trying for players if his ilk. But we shouldn't expect to land them. Players like Coutinho came to the league as not finished products. Pricey risk/reward targets. Ziyech would be an example of players we should be able to get across the line and shooting for. If we can supplement that with someone that is an established PL star fantastic. But we shouldn't be holding up our transfer business on the hope that is something we can get over the line.

So you are saying the squad RM isn't the best we have had in 20 years

I totally agree with you, and so do most people now

But last season RM wasn't getting the best out of the best squad since the 80's

Any idea what has changed

Koeman wont play young lads if he can use experience...he never has done other than when hes forced to.

We should have had a 3 year initial plan of bringing through and signing young players matched with experienced winners.

This will never happen under Koeman. Thats not me being anti-koeman, its based on his career. You just need to compare Holgate last performances in the league to Colemans...

Weird isn't it, Like he doesn't know what his best eleven or formation is after 4 months

Said it yesterday, Do you think Klopp/Conte/Pep/Jose would totally change there formation because one player was out

Martinez for his faults has a system and style he wanted to implement. If he had £££ i think he could have achieved this.

These other managers also have systems and styles they use and are successful with...Koeman has nothing.

I can understand the using experience in the short term, it is mid to long term that concerns me.
A club like Everton needs youth to come through, as we will never have the money to spend like some I could name

I would love for our youth setup to flow into first team. My point was that I think this window demonstrated that big money signings of established premier league players is not something we can assume we will be able to do.

I could very well be wrong but I do think we have money and don't need to sell to fund purchases. I think (maybe hope) this window was a learning curve for Moshiri. We are going to have to improve first before being able to sign someone like that.
