Ronald Koeman discussion

Stupid thing to say. how are we supposed to attract top talent if we are saying our current top talent should leave? I understand what he means but why say anything, why get involved?

he should be trying to change the perception of the club back to a club that can win anything, compete with anyone. For all of Bobs faults it was refreshing to hear him speak of Everton with genuine expectations for success, especially after Moyes. Koeman is taking us a step backwards off the pitch with these comments.

We have financial backing now. these comments don't help the club, they help Lukaku. We don't exist to help Lukaku and koeman needs to be getting a stern word from moshiri/kenwright.

The timing of it as well, get panned 5-0 by Chelsea then say Lukaku should leave. Proper statement of where we are at the moment.

I agree. We also haven't won a bean since 1995.

Now I fully agree that he should not have said what he has said, especially in public, but I strongly believe people are having issue with it because they know it's actually true.

I have no issue with that whatsoever.

My only issue is that he said it, as he really didn't need to.

We are mediocre in Premier League terms.
And McDonalds burgers and Starbucks coffee are less than mediocre in comparison to those you can buy elsewhere for a similar price, but can you imagine a senior executive at those companies going on record saying so?

It's not that what he's said isn't true, it's that it's an utterly stupid thing to say to the press.

Lukaku is no Messi. He is good enough for Everton and no more than that and worked his way up here through West Brom. We gave him a big club platform, CHELSEA didn't and Koeman is a complete bell. Sell Lukaku for £75M and swap Koeman for FDB.

It is true no doubt. I'm having an issue with it because he's come here to build something, the project, as he keeps calling it. these comments do nothing to help the club achieve the goals of that project. it undermines everything that is happening at the club. He should be banging on about the investment in the club and increasing the expectations of what the club can accomplish so we can attract the next level of players and keeping hold of our best players. saying Lukaku is going nowhere. these comments sound like there's no chance of Lukaku signing a new deal and that isn't sending the right message to anyone in or outside the club.

Is,nt it clear to everyone by now?
Koeman and a few of the A list players see themselves progressing beyond everton football club.
If the club wants to keep it,s best players and manager then they need to match the ambition of Koeman and the players.
Koeman will be gone in the summer is my bet if the club do not back him in Jan.
Ooh that's got me thinking now, after Moshiri's public pressuring of Koeman's position the other day, is this now Koeman's way of saying well you didn't back me on summer spending?

Stay tuned to find out . . .

As I said to @mkrudden earlier, there's two ways how people will take this.

The overly-dramatic (imo) view of how it's so bad and this changes everything and how dare he say it etc. (a bit like all the far-left liberals now believing that the world will literally implode due to Trump winning the US election - though that's a different story)

And then the view of okay, maybe it's not what you want to hear the manager say, but overall it's true. It's honest - and we all asked for more transparency and honesty. He hasn't said Lukaku should leave, or that he will leave. He has simply stated that Lukaku will not have fulfilled his potential if he stays here all of his career - which is absolutely 100% the case.

If he said Lukaku was going nowhere, then come next summer when there may well be a £60mil offer on the table, he'd be getting vilified.

He's said many times in the past that we want to keep hold of our best players. But there's nothing wrong with acknowledging how good Lukaku can be.

Just more fans accepting mediocrity if you aren't offended by those comments.

Boo him every time he takes to the technical box.

It is accepting reality mate. We are average, until we do something to change that then we are at the same level as stoke and west brom.

We are Everton who should not accept nothing less than the best. One of the pioneers of football.

there is another club who 'expect the best' and have that frame of mind all the time.....

Is it not possible to be an everton fan and just be able to hold your hands up and say 'we are a bit crap but hopefully this changes?' Instead of 'oh we are boss, better than everyone else'. This is what i am getting at, we are a bit crap right now. We have a crap squad, no success for a long time and arguably be worse off again if we didn't sign lukaku. Rather than delude myself into thinking we are in a false position or we are better than what we are i'm now happy to accept it. I want the club to change that, we all do, but the reality is what it is right now.
