Ronald Koeman discussion

Straight bat: "He's our player and we want to keep him."

End of story.

Not for big gob though.

Even if you knew that he would be leaving in the summer no matter what? Is it not your job as manager to curb expectations.
Worst thing i would want to hear is, he is going no were! For him then to be off in the summer

He's at the wrong club. I can't believe he's just said if Rom stays here long term then he's not fulfilled his potential. I don't care what anyone says about reality and slapping down the cards, he is a crass and stupid individual. This sort of Comment has been brewing too. What, like you're doing us a favour turning up to oversee these five nil thumpings then mate? I suggest you take your absurd ego and peddle it elsewhere

As I said to @mkrudden earlier, there's two ways how people will take this.

The overly-dramatic (imo) view of how it's so bad and this changes everything and how dare he say it etc. (a bit like all the far-left liberals now believing that the world will literally implode due to Trump winning the US election - though that's a different story)

And then the view of okay, maybe it's not what you want to hear the manager say, but overall it's true. It's honest - and we all asked for more transparency and honesty. He hasn't said Lukaku should leave, or that he will leave. He has simply stated that Lukaku will not have fulfilled his potential if he stays here all of his career - which is absolutely 100% the case.

If he said Lukaku was going nowhere, then come next summer when there may well be a £60mil offer on the table, he'd be getting vilified.

He's said many times in the past that we want to keep hold of our best players. But there's nothing wrong with acknowledging how good Lukaku can be.
But that conveniently leaves a big massive gaping hole in the middle of all the things he could have said doesn't it? It's not like he had to either say 'no chance he's leaving' or 'I'd probably go if I was him', there's literally a million acceptable, diplomatic ways of answering the question but he's chosen to talk the club down. It's not offensive, it's not the end of the world, and very few people are saying it is. It is, however, totally unnecessary and dispiriting for an already disillusioned fanbase.

It's probably accurate to say that we have absolutely no chance of qualifying for the Champions League or winning a cup in the next 3/4 years, it's probably accurate to say that we'll struggle to get more than 5/6 points from our next 6 games - but would you be happy if the manager came out and said so? I wouldn't, and I don't see why this situation is any different.
