Ronald Koeman discussion

How has the club allowed this grenade without a pin to be interviewed at this time?

The club appears to lack any kind of media policy - any kind of 'do and don't discuss' training to help players/managers evade traps and avoid controversy/setting themselves up for a fall.

Quite why we - as a club - seem to allow players and managers to consistently put themselves in the crosshairs of largely negative-towards-Everton media, and dooming themselves to misinterpretation and the chagrin of the fan base is beyond me.

There are former media professionals in the market place who specialise in 'media training' for big organisations - in my opinion, Everton should be employing one of them rather sharpish before things go any further in the wrong direction.

An utter walloper.

He's the type who if Everton ever challenged for honours again would be spewing out bile at every opportunity. He's the worst kind of two faced hypocritical*, patronising Kopite hack there is...oh, and that book he wrote about Liverpool's collapse season 'They dared to dream' or some such cobblers is the most embarrassing and comical piece of English language writing published in the past 5 years.

*currently working on Radio Murdoch after having made a big song and dance about The Times not giving prominent front page coverage to the verdict on the 96.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your rant, Tony Barrett had nothing to do with the book you mentioned, I know this as he's a relative. I had to google it and it was a fella called Paul Tomkins.
By Radio Murdoch, you mean TalkSport? Don't think hes working for them. You sure your not getting him confused with the utter melt Tony Evans, ex football editor of the Times? Best get facts right before you do a character assassination.

In the past 7 games we've won one and suffered a mauling that the rest of the country have only just stopped cringing about on our behalf. The season so far has been played for the most part with sterile football.

I'm not sure we should feel lucky to have that.
We are a team of misfits who he has to try and get the best out of tbf to him, load of garbage/over the hill players who contribute sweet f.a. to the team. At least his signings (Valencia apart and I'm not 100% sure he wanted him) have made decent contributions. But if he insists on playing Snivelly then I agree he isn't the manager for us

Everton occupy that space in the media where (because no other supporters are interested in what we do, by and large) controversial stories about managers and players and owners are the only interest for them. Obviously in that respect Koeman plays into that space very nicely for them. He's a rent a quote. Just point a camera and microphone at him and ask what he thinks of an Everton player or personal ambition and hey presto! ready made controversy.

To follow on from your point: the club have quite obviously been on a media blitz the past 24 hours or so using favourable hacks to defend the manager's loose cannon shots. They prefer, it seems, to put out fires rather than stop them happening in the first place. It's not good enough. The feller's on £6M per year and they need to be getting a grip of him and his outbursts. My fear is that no one at the club feels they can do that other than the owner - and he has the attitude of "Koeman does what he wants".

'kin marvelous.

You're right. Apologies. It was Tony Evans.

We have to hope that there isn't a feeling of "any publicity is good publicity" within the club, cos that's barking mad.

I dont know. That evaluation changes about this season. We had that early decent run and the feeling was that the players just needed a kick up the backside and the quality was there; then we have a poor run and the squad is threadbare.

I'm somewhere in between: I think as an attacking force (which let's face it was put together largely for) it's better than Koeman is getting from it.

Lineker's interview with Koeman tonight on bbc2 will be about Koeman as a player, Barcelona, Cruyff and Dutch philosophy, his time and achievements at Southampton - and then towards the end..he will say something like 'you now manage one of my former clubs' and there'll be 30 seconds about Everton and Koeman will talk about a project.

I really hope that's true.

I'd like him to start showing some warmth about Everton and that he feels honoured to be chosen as our manager. I dont get that impression at the minute.

Lord knows what it was Moshiri said to him in the interview to entice him here.

Whatever it was, allied to the absurd wage packet, has fostered this apparent sense that he is doing us a favour by being here.

He's also got a 36 year old mainstay as his midfield anchor, that will get you nowhere in this league nowadays, A church mouse captain, to quote your good self, who seems to have done a distin and a crocked baines. His defensive players are failing and he needs to bring in some fresh blood to replace these players. The attacking 3rd needs to sort itself out and use the creativity it potentially has a lot more, I would be inclined to play Lennon, as he's an absolute nuisance to play against, over Kevin 'The Belgian Tit' Mirallas and hope he proves a point.

Oh yeah, it needs a transfusion of new talent. But the tools he has to hand could be better used imo.
