Ronald Koeman says Everton will adopt pressing game this season
New Blues boss determined for Goodison fear factor to be restored and plans change in tactics

RONALD KOEMAN wants Everton to get in the opposition’s face at Goodison this season.

The new Blues boss has been charged with turning the side back into contenders for European qualification.

Koeman knows that he must restore the fear factor at the Old Lady that was lost under Roberto Martinez and plans for the Blues to adopt a more aggressive pressing game.

Everton lost eight times in the Premier League at Goodison last season and finished with the worst home campaign in the club’s history.

Koeman is determined that Everton move on from their recent struggles at home and he plans for the team to start afresh in August with new tactics.

Martinez was often criticised for not asking the Everton players to try and close the opposition down, high up the pitch.

The Catalan always insisted that the Blues’ pressing policy was based on who they were playing and not a rigid strategy.

But Koeman has hinted that at Goodison this season, Everton will look to chase down the opposition.

“We start a new season and don’t bring last season with you,” the new Blues boss said.

“Maybe we can change some details in doing a little bit more pressing.

“You need to feel comfortable when you play at home and I always prefer to play at home and not away because to have that support behind is good for the team and the individual player.”

Southampton won 22 of their 38 Premier League home games during Koeman’s time at the club, losing just nine.

Everton kick-off the new campaign at home to Tottenham Hotspur on August 13.

“We start a new season and don’t bring last season with you,” the new Blues boss said.

YES MATE.

Looking forward to it already.

No, no, no! Chairmen don't DO anything, chairmen never DO and actual WORK - they're top of the tree .... they network .... aka sit around drinking coffee/whisky and chat and they pop up as a public figure when things are going well to take the plaudits - they're simply wealthy men.
The DoF does the looking around to find & negotiate suitable footballers, the Coach melds those sourced into a team, without being distracted by the legalities and bargaining.

You missed out 'in Italy' there mate... lots of clubs operate without directors of football, and do pretty well too. Hardly any clubs in the UK have directors of football. Man Utd and Arsenal have never had one. Spurs just sacked theirs.

Directors of football are all well and good. But they are not essential, gospel.

Dunno how Everton have managed to amass about 150 million quids worth of the best young players about without a Director of Football. Either the blindfold had a hole in it, or the donkey must've had a massive backside...
