Everton boss Ronald Koeman: 'I've been influenced by the best but I'm my own man'
Everton manager Koeman says Cruyff and Hiddink made impression on him but he is carving own vision
Going his own way - Ronald Koeman arrives for his first press conference as Everton manager
Ronald Koeman has learned under some of football's most illustrious names but insists he is intent on making his own mark on the game.
The
Everton boss played under Johan Cruyff during his time at Barcelona and has also spent time working with notable coaches such as Guus Hididnk among others.
But now he wants to
carve his own place in football history , and after a period of settling into the Premier League at Southampton he feels ready to take the next step with the Toffees.

He said: "I had some very good coaches leading me while I was a player. I had Johan Cruyff, who was in my opinion the best of them, for seven years and I learned a lot from him.
"I was also very happy when I was managed by Guus Hiddink, [Poor language removed] Advocaat and also Rinus Michels when we won the Euros in 1988 with the national team.
"All of those managers taught me a lot but the most important thing is to keep your own character.
"I’m Ronald Koeman. I learned a lot and I need the rest of the people in the technical staff to give a good direction to this Everton team."

Speaking in June's edition of
Everton's official monthly magazine the Dutchman said he took encouragement from the fact he was Everton's number one target as they searched for a successor to Roberto Martinez.
"From the beginning, I got the feeling that I was the number one choice to replace Roberto Martinez as Everton manager, and that was a good feeling to have.
"I’m looking forward now and I’m excited to continue managing a big club in the Premier League.
"As a manager, you learn from mistakes you make and, after several seasons, you become more comfortable and you really know what you like to do and which way you like to go."
Koeman outlined his vision for
how Everton will play during the coming campaigns.

He said: "I’m one of the Dutch coaches and, as normal, the Dutch coaches like to dominate games and not to wait.
"I like to play attacking football and to press the opponent, to make it difficult. It’s all about trying to dominate the game and giving the fans enjoyable football.
"I think, in general, Everton had a strong squad last season.
"Of course, there will be some changes in the squad, but that is the same for every team ahead of a new season.
"First of all, it’s really important to get a good view about young players. I’m a manager that likes to give young players a chance to become part of the first team and I’ve heard Everton has a good academy with
some very good young players.

"I will talk to people at the club to make a plan over the next couple of weeks, then start pre-season and make sure we have a really strong team that can fight for a high position in the table."
The 53-year-old added that the scale of billionaire Farhad Moshiri's vision for Everton in the Premier League excites him.

"Its nice to be part of the Premier League because it’s the strongest competition in European club football," he said.
"It’s a competition, which as we saw last year, is very unpredictable. It’s also a great chance to become the manager of a club like Everton, a club that has a big history and has really good players.
"Of course, we have a budget to make the team strong but we will do this with all the people who are at Everton.
"You can’t do it by yourself, you need everybody pulling in the same direction –
the fans, the players, the board, the staff – to get a very good family feeling and to reach something special."
