Ronald Koeman discussion

It's not the critique that's the issue.

It's the ridiculous criticism and this sudden self-entitlement that's taken over Evertonians.

It's just boiled over from last year most of it, added to the disappointing transfer window, Koeman is probably getting some stick carried over from Martinez but if the togger was better, it wouldn't be happening.

Both aren't mutually exclusive you know, both can be discussed. Both are terrible.
One is a new manager's first season in his first few months at the helm with a poor side his idiotic predecessor built. The other was during the previously mentioned idiots third season at the helm with his own side that he'd had years to build.

Really? I mean really embarrassed?

So if we had nicked a winner, you would still be saying you were embarrassed?

If we had won at least another 3 games and had another 6 points in the bag and were sat in 6th a point behind Spurs, then none of us would even be discussing hoofball, it wreaks of fickle and flavour of the month talk!

Yes mate, I found it EMBARRASSING!

Hoofball straight up to Lukaku and then bam, they lost possession. It was this right up until the last ten minutes when they actually started to play a bit of football.

As for your second point, I can't even be bothered responding to that.

Like I just said, He's probably getting more stick than he should because of last season and the disastrous transfer window.

That approach to the situation (the 'Koeman isn't an Everton man but he gets the job done') is only reasonable if you were talking about a man with a glittering cv of going to clubs and being consistently successful. The truth is that Koeman has a pretty undistinguished managerial career, so it's not a case of holding your nose and going with him because he's a winner.

And on your other point of his inconsistency of performance: we cant afford (literally) to employ someone who'll give us such undulating contours to a season. We need incremental development at this club, not a snakes and ladders type of manager who'll drive us mad with month(s) long down turns.

I think both of those are good points. On your first there is obviously a relativity here. We have gone from Moyes and Martinez who though each in their own way felt more natural Everton fits neither could be described as winners. There will obviously be people who will wan to downplay his league title wins in Holland, but he's won cups in Spain and Portugal as well. He's not Mourinho but relative to where we currently are he is a long way in his outlook from what we've had from the club over the last 15 years or so.

I haven't studied his time pre Southampton as closely, it's not so much game to game inconsistency as it is there are patches he does well. Whether we accept that or not is one thing but I can't say I am massively surprised at our form given the fixtures we've had and his past history in the PL. That's not to excuse it, but just as at the start when we were winning I urged caution, now I'd urge a little patience.

Evertonians want as you said a developmental manager. It's what Moyes tried to do and it's what Martinez was trying to do. It was also all we could be under Kenwright. I'm not sure that's what Moshiri wants though. In that context I think the best we can hope is he is more Joe Royle than Walter Smith.

He was there for one season right? I don't buy into this influence thing because Koeman bought most Soton players when they got 6th and 7th. Results speak for itself.

he did well at S'ton. No question. But now close up here his methods look barbaric.

I've scarcely seen worse football under Moyes, and I think we have to go back to the last months of the Smith's era for the last time we saw this type of dinosaur approach to the game.

I'll tell you what. We will tread water and nothing more whilst Big Ron is in charge. We are just another notch on his bedpost. Another step on the career ladder. For all of Roblertos faults, he went out of his way to 'get soak' in all things Everton. Big Ron feels the opposite. It is like we are his bit of weekend rough, just waiting until the girl of his dreams walks by and flashes some cleavage.

But okay, I know its only 14 games in but his demeanor leaves me with no option other than to view him as Walter Smith MkII. I've seen this film before and I know how it plays out.

But ok.

The football is horrible, ive been saying that since we won 4 games in 5 at the start of the season, nobody is hiding away from that fact.

Ive also maintained since the summer that we must limp towards the January window for football players cos sadly the last manager left a bunch of half arsed wing nuts in certain areas that need addressing as a matter of urgency.

When a multi trophied world class manager is forced to play Tom Cleverley in football matches you just know that something aint right.

He won't manage a bigger club than Everton, He needs to realise that.

Do you think the City fans care that Pep couldnt name their 1960s side?

I dont understand this POV, Ronny will never pretend to be a boss blue, the last clown used to make me vomit pretending he was a proper blue.

He sees nothing but dross in our side (aside from Lukaku and Gana) and is realistic about expectations. He doesn't see CL footie in our future with this squad, so he's making do with what we got until he can bring his guys in.

Sure, we can play a more open style and prettier to watch, but hey, haven't we been there before and see what that does without the proper back line to play it?
