Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

  • no, it's uninspiring even if top 6 is back on

  • josé on toast

The fact that he's been highly successful, much more so in his playing career, does not constitute evidence that he's a workaholic manager and even if he's not that does not mean he won't succeed with us as I stated.
His current behaviour, in conjunction with some things I've read about his time at Southampton however, suggests that he's not type to dedicate a lot of his time to all aspects of the job.

You don't need to be a workaholic to be successful in a job. Koeman is the boss and if he trusts his staff then he doesn't have to be a workaholic. Workaholics are usually meddling people who think they know better than everyone else and the world will cave in without them.....in other words they have a lack of trust in other people and try to take on too much resulting in being ineffective.

My post acknowledges this and I also acknowledge being a workaholic is no guarantee of success but it's my impression that many of the top level managers are obsessively dedicated to work.
Emmery, for example, is said to pour over hours of videos. Perhaps this obsessive quality at least partially increases the chances of success and contributes to distinguishing between the true winners in management and the rest of the field.

Couldn't agree more. I would also put Moyes in that category as well though...

You beleive that rumour then?

LOL
it is true. he was 2 games from the sack in the middle of our slump. Part of that was that he would let the players have half a week off. (more than a few times) and that he he fell out with a handful of players

sad to see him go but nothing like when pochettino left. You could visibly see the fitness levels had dropped a fair bit from the two managers

Ron is more flexible tactically mind and likes a huge lump up top

Get used to him having holidays in the season and giving players half a week off etc
If results are going well and we're climbing up the table I couldn't care less. If the manager's system is effective (and Koeman's look effective) then I'm all for it. I'll believe it for my own eyes when I see it.

Is it as true as when your lot said Koeman coming here was 'not happening' and that we had 'no chance' of getting him?

Right

You'll be saying the same thing in two seasons when Middlesbrough poach your manager next.

You can really blame his jumping ship at Southampton if he was two games away from the sack, if a random fan knows you can bet he knew.

Fair enough in my book.

Right
when you say 'you'. you don't actually mean me personally right?
apart from say, circa 20 people on saints forum?

it is sad to see him go as he is a good manager. Clearly better than martinez anyway and will do well for you.
but pochettino he most certainly is not.

as said, he is pretty flexible with his tactics. 3 at the back is his go-to when things are not going well. But the fitness was a big step down in fitness with regards to the previous manager. and he loves a big, immobile lump up top for the play to go around

genuine in-the-knows on saints web (who said it at the time in january, not in the last week) that he was 2 games away from the boot.
obviously, we went on an incredible run....so it never came about

Genuine question, which big immobile lumps do you refer to under his management of Southampton?

He's won a lot over the years.
Probably realised he wasn't going to win anything at Southampton.
So if he thinks time off is a good idea - has to be respected.
