I've always believed that Southgate was the influential figure within the England set up who told journalists off the record that Barkley was 'un-coachable' (it used to get brought up on Sunday Supplement quite a bit), so I wonder if this is a message to him, seeing as though he's now the first team manager.

He is tactically inept, and his decision-making is poor. That will never change. The only way he could change it is just to pass the ball sideways to the nearest man, and if he did that he would lose any impact. Sometimes players just don't have "football intelligence". That's what separates the great from the good.
