Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

He was terrible tonight, got caught dawdling with the ball in midfield on so many occasions.

Can't see him ever improving on what he currently offers right now. I'm happy he's not our player anymore, I just wish we got a bit more dough for him.
To be honest was he worth much more? If he had two years left I don't think we would of got that much extra, maybe another 10 perhaps. Don't forget Chelsea only got him as he was cheap enough to fill a home grown quota

I remember looking at that scar he posted from his hamstring tear and thinking that £15m might be a good deal in the long run, especially for a player who had 6 months left.

And absolutely, I think the signing of Barkley was one of the main reasons Conte flipped his lid in the way that he did. He was just utterly bemused by him as a player, didn't need or want him.

Sarri has done well to get some kind of a tune out of him, but his comments recently about Ross needing to improve look to be the first signs to me that Sarri will give up on him.

Nothing wrong with him last night ffs, he links up well with all around him. Keeps it moving well......thats his job !!!

Kovacic come on, dived all over the place and gave it away all the time.

Thought he look a bit slow and ponderous tbh. Jogging back when others were sprinting. Don’t think he’ll get much prem game time from now on

I don't think he was ever that good in the head. The first time I saw him was at Arsenal in the 2012/2013 season, he was great that night. Created decent chances, pretty much constantly turned their players and put a few good through balls in. In Bobby's first season, he was great especially at the start of the season, just running at teams and having shots. The problem was he never really developed the skills other players like Arteta, Pienaar even players like Felaini and Bernard now, the ability to keep the ball and make passes and hold the ball at the same time. I remember when we played Arsenal in the cup and he somehow managed to blast the ball over the ball over the bar from like 7 yards out, when he could of just placed it in the bottom corner.

He wasn't that bad in the next 2 seasons, but he certainly didn't develop that much. In the 2016/2017 season I just gave up with him, he needed about 5 seconds to turn with the ball. The amount of time, he just stopped with the ball, when he could of turned and run at goal and made a shot. Going to bars that most normal people, wouldn't go to right after games and getting punched is hardly sensible either. My view is that there was always something off with Barkley, while I wouldn't diagnose him with depression or something, I do think there was something going on behind the scenes, that affected his performances. I think sometimes we falsely assume players have large amount of self confidence I don't think Barkley did. I think quality players either need to be calm, smart or aggressive, Barkley is none of those things.

I would always hesitate at guessing what goes on in peoples heads...people hide so much...from themselves even more so...big can of worms to delve into.
I do agree in a footballing manner with your last three adjectives though
Edit; and on the jogging, always with the jogging.

Says it all, really. He didn't develop.
