Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

Thought he look a bit slow and ponderous tbh. Jogging back when others were sprinting. Don’t think he’ll get much prem game time from now on

Agree with that side of his game, always struggle with that side.

But on the ball, he was fine, very good at times.

Not much he or Jorginho can do when Chelsea don't play with a striker, and the only plan seems to be....get it to Hazard!!

Don't miss this guy - one of those "promising" players who have their moments but never really string it all together. Has some ability but rarely seems to be mentally right for games; always looks like a caveman staring at fire.
As I'm banging on since forever, he hasn't got any football inteligence (and I don't think he's too clever off the field as well, but that's another story), his positioning is always questionable and his off the ball movement is awful.

With the ball at his feet he's a decent player, off it - awful. And he has been like that forever and that's the reason he will never make it in the top club.

Clearly a player there. The 15/16 season he was very good, but he's neither kicked on from there or managed to reproduce that form consistently. Not sure it reflects well on our coaching staff if we say he lacks intelligence though, as he was with us since he was 11.

Some players have it some players don't, footballing intelligence is not always something that can be taught. For example, it is not always the schools fault for failing pupils who may not be that clever and it is the same for footballers.

The club couldn't go through puberty and do his school work for him, there's only so much a coach or teacher can do to positively develop youngsters, a lot of it is on the individual. He's always been thick as a mattress. Some people just are, doesn't mean they're bad or worthless as people but it comes down to just genetics and background I guess. Barkley will never have the brain capacity to be top class player, can you honestly think of anyone in the history of the game who was utterly brilliant but off the pitch an absolute vegetable?
