Utd loaned Beckham to Preston as a youngster, it didn't do him much harm, Wilshire would be an England and Arsenal regular by now if he hadn't got such a bad injury, another loanee .. He had a year at Bolton and was their best player at 18 yrs old , a loan will be of great benefit to Ross

Only crap Managers loan out young players.

.............................
Stop mischaracterizing the issue, noone is saying only crap managers loan out youngsters who need game experience.

Obviously a loan move will be good for his development. Literally not a single person in this thread disagrees with that.

The issue is whether or not its prudent given our current situation. United had a lot more depth when they loaned out Cleverly than we do right now. This will benefit Barkley in the long term, but we may need him in the short term. We are one or two injuries away from having a real problem, one which Barkley may or may not be able to solve.

I'm personally a bit undecided on whether or not this is good, since it is very much a question of short vs. long term interest of the club, but I just wanted to clear up that your post about Cleverly is a straw man.

At the end of the day, if Barkley didn't go out on loan, does anyone see Moyes playing him, even if we had an injury crisis?

Because I can't.

He might as well go out on loan.

Good news if it happens. He needs game time and he's not getting any here. Based on pre-season it looks like Junior could be ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment anyway.

Barkley needs game time. To be honest, he has looked so inexperienced in most games he has played. His broken leg really hampered his progress. It would be fantastic to have him come through and be ready to play PL now but he needs time to develop in the championship. We can all see the raw talent but it needs nurturing.

i'm happy about this. Think he's ready to start for us even at this young age, i think he should be starting against the lesser teams at home and in cups and taken from there. i mean mcfadden and a past it cahill playing last season whilst ross didn't even make the bench was disgusting. thought it would have been perfect for him to take over from cahill, fighting with naismith for that position, but he obviously isn't going to play at all this season again. celtic would have been a great move at a big club, but maybe he'll play better opposition at wednesday? hope he proves that he should be considered seriously for a starting spot next season

Hope he gets some game time. Would love him to
Get to Tranmere, Id go and watch him.

Would prefer Tranmere or Wrexham for him myself - Tranmere because of the way they play, Wrexham because they are desperate for a midfielder and could easily go up this year if they get a decent one.
