Ross Barkley

60 mill up front, yeh why not. So long as it's invested as well as Southampton have invested their summer money in your tadic's and pelle's, however look at spurs/liverpool and maybe you say no. But ross is a bit more expendable than Suarez was and Bale was.

The difference between Spurs, Liverpool, and ourselves (if we were to sell Ross for a number above 50 million pounds) is that while Bale and Suarez were the focus of the teams and they often created or scored large amounts of goals. Take Ross out of our team now and while it is impossible to replace him, the right signings can replace his production. I think he can become a world class player, the quality and ability is there and if Everton manages to hold onto him, I think he can become a player we can trust to win matches. Right now I don't think he can do that week in and week out.

.....I'm afraid I'm hopeless at uploading clips or sending links, but if the above works hopefully you will get a feel for what I mean when I say Barkley reminds me of Bobby Chartlon. The powerful running style isn't obvious from this but the shooting strength off right and left is. I think Barkley has the potential to have a similar impact and that is a real accolade.

...bit of a discussion on the other thread but here's my Chartlon clip, this is what I think Barkley is capable of.

*sigh*

We are not in the same position we were 10 years ago and that farce over Rooney. On and off the field we area lot stronger. Whilst 60m is a lot of money, its of my opinion that Barkley is on the cusp of becoming world class. We now have a spine at our club that could really blossom and take us places we havent been for many years. Stones, McCarthy, Barkley and Lukaku is that spine and all so young.

Losing Barkley, a piece of that spine, would 60m be enough compensation??

The lad hasnt even got going yet so its impossible to tell. I'd risk saying its not enough and I wouldnt even flinch at that money quoted.

Well, if he's 'on the cusp of becoming world class' we should take £60 million for him now, with a few add ons.The number of players who have been 'on the cusp' and not become worldies is considrable, and if Ross makes it like Bale, then good luck to him.Eighteen months from now he might be worth little more than £12 million. Its called The Rodwell Syndrome..or replace any of many other names for the current Sunderland reserve. I hope Ross'makes it' and with Everton, but sooner rather than later the hype has to turn into regular game changing and consistent performance.

You're right he shows flashes but no more. Has to step up this season if he truly is a world class talent. He needs to be a game changer

To be honest I think that bad injury he picked up prior to the leicester game has held him back more than anything. Barkley is a massive blue (you only have to hear Roberto's comments about how much he loves playing for everton) and I really don't think he would be pushing for a move. However either his agent and kenwright's need to generate significant funds towards the new stadium, might mean that decision is out of his hands.

I think so and if he is going to go we should maximise the fee that we get.
We probably have sold Rodwell earlier before the injuries took their toll
Let's hope that Ross' injuries don't hold back his potential

He isn't worth anywhere near £60m at present. He might be one day but chances are he won't be. It would make financial sense to sell him for that amount...

And yet I still wouldn't because he's a blue and he's ours, and he has the potential to be one of the best. It would be too much like Rooney all over again and selling him at that stage and at that price has to be one of the worst transfer deals the club has ever done.

I read the story of the Rooney transfer. It was blatantly apparent that Kenwright didn't want to sell but was forced to. It was a bad bad decision but the only one I blame is Rooney which is why I wouldn't want to see him play again for us. He's a Manc now and forever.
