Ross Barkley

There was one spell late in the 2nd half today, 3 guys on Barkley, he tried this ridiculous move with dropping the ball behind then kicking up in between them all. He was gone if that ball went through. All 3 were flat footed when he did that. Im not really worried about Barkley, Im worried about almost everyone else.

Must be said Baines looked good today in CM too. Actually had a CM who could distribute the balL!

To compare Barkley with Rodwell is fatuous. Rodwell was nowhere near as talented as Ross and we duped Man City into paying a fortune for him.
Comparisons with Quixall are difficult as even those of us around at the time didn't get as much opportunity to watch him, and besides, it was a very different era.
As for your assertion about Rooney being 100 times better, I find it difficult to compare as they are different players in different positions.
But hey, let's crucify the most talented youngster we have. That should help us to get out of the poor run we're in.

Come on now, this is a discussion with assorted opinions. And comparisons with Rooney, and with Wiltshire, etc, have been made about Ross since he appeared on the scene. And no one is crucifying Barkley, merely suggesting that his career may take the route of many others who had promise and did not become one of the worlds best. There are quite a few of Barkleys generation being more productive in the Prem than our young midfielder. Already people are saying that there is only one position Ross can play....Rooney has played, and succeeded, in many positions for club and country and yet the majority are already writing off versatility as one of Barkleys assets.I am sure that Barkley will have a career at a high level as a footballer, but the weight of expectation placed on him by Evertonians is immense. Its the same expectations we had of Rodwell for a while. You think talking about Ross on the internet is 'crucifying' him?. Perhaps we should ask the crowd not to boo and complain the next time Ross or one of the others adds to their series of mistakes, lack of concentration, or disinterest.

You seem to have an agenda against Barkley that is unhealthy. Why don't you just support him, rather than making comparisons with past players and getting on his back.
Comments like yours about a very promising young player are not at all constructive and can do nothing but harm to his career.
But then, that's probably the result you want.

Barkley is currently the only player with perhaps Mirallas who look capable of lifting the gloom and despair amongst the squad.
We will stay up this season but still not good enough which could see us losing both Ross and Kev.
A shambolic season with has been sugar coated due to some decent results in Europe where I actually believe we were very fortunate at times.

Not a great game from Ross today. Tried hard for the most part, probably too hard and so wanted to do too much.
Fair play to him though, he came over to us at the end and didn't snake off just because some fans were booing.

My only agenda since I first watched Everton in the late 1940s is to support the club. Supporters, not just at this club, have always built up young players to soon and too much, thus putting an unacceptable burden on the player.Martines has nurtured Barkley in the right way, taking him out of the firing line sometimes and giving him his head on other occasions. This is constructive, as is most comment on this forum(unless its downright heckling). You can't honestly say that comments on an internet forum can harm his potential career ? If thats the case we had better close down fan forums everywhere and be very careful what we shout, and who we shout it at, at football matches.

Barkley is one of our only sparks at the moment along with Mirallas and Stones when he is available. I though he did well today considering. It is clear he needs to play in a central midfield position.

Carragher doing what the kids call trolling:

@Carra23: Enough of Gerrard now he's leaving. Replacement has to be Ross Barkley offer 10 million go to 12 tops job done.

You have to doff your cap at that one, top trolling. Especially considering you just have to remember a few weeks ago him and Neville gushing about what a super star Ross would be for Everton and England after the QPR game... He knows Ross' true value.

Still showed in patches in that 2nd half he is the type of player you pay to watch, magical touch and power at times.

He is just a kid and as soon as a huge club offer him top draw players to train with every day, without that daily expectation , the better it could be for him.
