He played really well but defensively he's still awful. For most of the game he played like a 2nd striker and Barry another centerback leaving McCarthy alone in the middle. I don't know if that's his fault or what he was told but for Barkley to improve we need someone who can improve the defensive side of his game.

He's playing the way the manager tells him too. RM was clear on tv telling Ross and Atsu to push up when we were under pressure after that second goal.

I can't wait to see these players set up in a proper formation, playing normal tactics Under a New manager!!

Suspect defensively but MUCH more like it going forward. Keep doing what you're doing Ross and you'll score every game.

Mate he has the potential to be as good as anyone. Let him be the best at defending too.

The first part of your post is spot on, but I just don't understand the second part, unless it's said tongue in cheek. Do you want him to be the best at defending in the team, in the club, in the country, he could do better at defending for sure, but I would not sacrifice one ounce of what he does to make him "the best at defending, get the right combination of players around him and he'll do fine.

He is class in my opinion. He reminds me of Gerrard he is almost a number 8 but cos his defensive side isn't good enough is better suited to the number 10 role. If someone could come in and develop his defensive side he could then have the option of playong either position. He needs wingers either side of him to stretch play to bring others in.

In my opinon Ross's game is going forward , running at players with purpose ,i really dont want him getting better defensively thats not his game never has been never will be .I want him getting better at what he's already good at ATTACKING .Ç.O.Y.B.

I think Martinez should forget about the number 10 position as such and go 433
And play Barkley in a 3 man midfield

Arsenal play 1 defensive mid and 2 attacking midfielders
I'd love James Milner along side Barkley and a sitting midfielder McCarthy/besic
Though he's not world class I think he's very underrated and would bring so much to our team and bring Barkley on

And he's on a free, not sure we would get him though

The very top players are also good defensive players as teams need to defend together.

Plus he's not a No10. Eventually he will play as a No8 or in a 3 man midfield.

Milner would be a great signing but like you say never gonna happen.

I agree he's not an out and out number 10 but in a 4-2-3-1 that is the position he is currently best suited to. However he needs wingers who will stay wide and not get in his space.

Going the game tomorrow and can honestly put Europa pain behind me if I can watch Ross and Rom rampage all over QPR. That's all I want tbh.

Needs to get his head up more and see the bigger picture,his decision making at times is poor,hopefully that will come with experience,and will come with us.
