Ross Barkley

Probably shouldn't be in the England squad in all honesty. Being picked on reputation. Having said that what I will say in his defence is when you look down at the list who would you have over him in the squad in midfield? There is literally no-one I can think of. When you pose the question what English midfielders do we have who can "run a game" in the way Barkley can, again the list is very sparse.

It is exactly the same as Daniel Sturridge who has been picked on reputation not form. No Berahino, no Austin and no Danny Ings makes a bit of a mockery of playing Sturridge who has been very poor this season and all of the above have scored more goals than him.

Sturridge is miles ahead of Ings, Austin and Berahino. Not his fault he's spent 5 months out injured. 4 goals in 7 starts isn't a poor record either.

Has barkley ever 'run a game'?

Maybe only the Qpr match

Isnt as good as he, we and the media think he is. Young with room to improve but you cant teach a kid not to be scared of something, such as tackling or doing the dirty work.

He is a instinct player capable of magic, naismith for example isnt really instinctive like Barkley but can certaintly do various roles within the team.

Depends what you mean by that. I always thought a midfielder who set the tempo with his ability to link up play, vision to pick out passess coupled with a great sense of position and space was one who you could say dictated a game. Is that Ross Barkley?

These words will bite you on the arse, he IS everything we think he is, he showed it last season.

should go to the u21 euros to get some confidence and momentum in a dirrerent enviorment and in easier competition. if roberto thinks that after of half a season the lad needs a break than break him now - our season is over really, we have got noting to play for. it could be an early pre-season to be fair the rest of remaining premier league games.

ross is a failure this season, so are the most of he's team mates and the manager. at the age of 22 he is not capable of neither turning games nor his own performances. hopefully he may improve that at some point of his career but that is a big if. there was quite a few youngsters in english game who was hailed and labelled as "the future greats" but ended up miserably. it's all up to ross and no one else

he is still a young footballer but he ain't no kid no more. he's been around the first team for nearly 5 years. you have got to expect more from this guy. maybe that little kick in the arse is what he really needs instead of overprotection and fake encouragement

Arsenal away and home derby last season. Both newcastle games he was also very good.

But that first half against Arsenal he was dominating the entire midfield - Wenger had to make 3 subs at half time iirc to control him. Even neutrals were impressed

Wenger never made any subs at half time, Ross was good that day, but he seems to be better in people's memory than in reality.

You are right, he made them at 68 mins, unusual for Wenger to make three in one go though.

Perhaps my memory is similarly playing tricks on me about his peformances. But if I'm going to err on one side or the other would prefer to do it by being positive about our players, especially the young ones.
