Just shows how badly he is managing him. He's treating him like a kid, giving him 10-minute cameos at the end of the game. That's not what he needs. He's never been an impact sub for us and he never, ever will be.

To be fair there were games last season when Barkley started and he was awful, a lot of posters on here even said it was like starting with 10 men, but at the same time we also had games where Barkley came off the bench and did a lot better.
I am sure Hodgeson will do no better at managing Barkley than Roberto has done, but maybe as an impact sub with no pressure so play from the off might be the best way to go for him until he gets his mind and game right.

lol ..did Jags really say that? I mean we can kind of guess he ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer but I'm not sure that's something his captain should be formally confirming lol lol

Hopefully with a summer off were he can forget all about last season and an injury free preseason he will come back a different player.
 

I remain very unconvinced that Barkley has the 'top two inches' requirement that differentiates a naturally talented sportsman from a potentially elite one.
 
If he was playing under Mourinho he'd be class now bossing all sorts of games. As it is he's got to suffer fools like Martinez and Hodgson who seem to need a tactical blueprint to be carried out to perfection just to score one goal.

Similar to you, I harbour grave doubts regarding Martinez's footballing nous; to the extent that I believe him to be a snake oil salesman.
 

He really has to improve his finishing, last season I think I could have counted his overall shots on target with my fingers. Needs to become a player who does more in the box.
