......he'll need to fight for his place like everybody else, performances will need to improve on last season.

I think we are so used to not having a mercurial football talent of his ilk and calibre we dont recoginise the outstanding gem he actually is. He is going to be the best player of his generation and the core of a nations hopes over the next decade.

We have a footballing genius on our hands and a rare and precious talent - i for one am going to join him. I knew the instant i saw him. I also knew he would struggle this season and its there in the vault - last summer i said he would struggle this year, purely because it was the wrong thing to do to take him to the world cup - England will never learn.

My thoughts exactly Neiler, I've thought it since he was about 12 and think it even more so now.

Build the lot around him.

This: build the whole thing with Ross in mind, with a good rest and a full preseason this could be the year were Ross steps up to be the top quality consistent player he was always destined to be.

60 mill (Pogba) couldnt buy what we have in Ross.

I have never been more certain about a player.

I feel he needs a different manager to get his best. It feels like Rooney all over again. Moyes playing him sporadically to keep his feet on the ground, shoving him on the wing saying he was too young etc. Ferguson gets him and sticks him upfront every single game and he's world class. We're doing the same with Barkley, limited appearances, being shoved all over the front line because he's not trusted in midfield. Thank god Fergie isn't around because he would have slapped 40 mill down, our gutless board would have taken it, and he'd have started Barkley in a midfield 2 next to a holding mid every game and Ross would be up there with Toure absolutely dominating the league.

Would anyone put Toure on the wing? Vieira, Pogba, Essien? Of course not. They are box to box powerhouses and Ross has all that and more because he's got a belting shot. We've literally got a young Ya Ya Toure on our hands who is a mad blue yet our idiot manager prefers Gareth Barry over him and our fans can't distinguish between performances from Ross in the middle (3-3 Derby, and 3-0 QPR) and his performances on the wing or stuck up front. He'll be gone if we keep abusing him and someone like Mourinho will build a team around him and we'll all be sat here waiting for a saviour from our academy not realising we sold two of them down the river. LET THE SHACKLES OFF ROSS ROBERTO YOU MORONIC CLOWN.

Except he played him here there and everywhere, which infact stopped him being as good as he shouldve been.

No he wouldnt, hes far to ill disciplined for a mourinho type, certainly to 'build a team around'

Toure is actually not anywhere near as good deeper either, he gets found out, better furhter forward

He only started moving Rooney when he was older and often to accommodate Ronaldo or Tevez in European aways. The majority of time he was upfront. Mourinho wanted to buy Gerrard the most ill disciplined of the lot. He's also indulged the likes of Sneijder and Ozil who show no inclination to work back. Mourinho knows how to build a team to suit exceptional talent. He carries Fabregas's lack of defensive nouse at the moment. He'd build a platform for Barkley to win matches, not stick him on the wing for 20 minute cameos as a sub for Aiden Mcgeady.

Ross played only slightly less minutes than he did his first full season (2477 vs 2612) and he actually played more minutes last year than Stones did - both of them would probably have played more if they hadn't had their injuries.

If Ross had moved further back into midfield who would you have wanted to play in the #10 and winger roles - Osman/Pienaar/Mirallas being injured (often at the same time) significantly reduced our options especially on the left wing.

I wouldnt say that mate, i think if anything Martinez is the one who has been the genisis of his development and i like that he has kept faithwith him through out the season. I think your right though Fergie would have slapped 40 mill on the table all ready.

For my money this season has been difficult for Ross for a few reasons - it was his first conscutive season, teams were more aware of his threat and game, he went away to the world cup and didnt get the rest he required physically and mentally, this coincided with injury and a disjointed pre season which was vital in essence it think all of things contributed to patchy form. I always think its amazing how older players like Gerrard and Lampards mins are managed with international VS Club commitments - but the likes of Barkley just get flogged. I am also going to call that this is going to be a difficult season for Stones for the same reasons.

For my money i think his best position is the player behind the player behind the striker, i think he can play on the flank with full back over lapping but see that position as he he can move into if required insted of being his primary one. Lads of Ross's skill have to have the ability to be flexible i terms of position and move about the pitch depending on how they are being marked, where the space is - that part of the tactical part of the game and i think he is learning that as part of his development. As for being a no 10 i think he will grow nto that role, but i dont think he will ever have a fixed position, which is a good thing he can play behind the striker, on the flank (inside forward) or third quater of the midfield plymaking form deep - i think he may even take up different positions in game as time goes on.

Just my two sense anyway.
