Ross Barkley

We were awful yesterday, even allowing for Stoke's dismal tactics and contribution. When the ref added seven minutes at the end, I thought it didn't matter, we would not have scoredif he had put on another 70.
The game was crying out for a young, fearless pup to run down the middle....once again Ross Barkley was left on the bench. The rumblings have begun about his contract. How do you think he feels knowing we are a crap team- and he can't get in it? I would be off

LOL Moyes read this before todays game.

I'm not convinced. Points are so important that I understand why Naismith starts ahead of him. He is classy but he has to influence games more. I'd love him to come good but he's not the answer as far as I'm concerned.

How can he learn to influence games more whilst sat on the bench?

Naismith doesn't start ahead of Barkley; different position entirely.

They are both competing for the same position in moyes' eyes....and so they should be if it was their natural positions. It's just they are competing for completely the wrong position for both of them....

He looks well within his depth. But i too feel with his ability he should be looking to go that extra yard.

Its the attribute that made Steven Gerrard the best box to box midfielder in this country.

If hes got the same nack that Gerrard had hes going to be amazing. However I havnt seen that extra yard yet. Hes only a young lad though. Dont think Gerrard really stepped up until he was 20-21

I was surprised that Moyes used Barkley today. It's not guaranteed that he'll start the next few games though even if Fellaini is banned. The manager might decide to bring Hitzlsperger back into the side to partner Gibson and push Osman behind Jelavic.

It would be interesting to see Naismith playing closer to Jelavic though. I think that he's a goal poacher by trade and he'd have more opportunity to get on the end of things if there were people either side of him putting balls into the box.

I'd like to see Barkley get a few starts while Neville, Mirallas and Fellaini are likely to be out of the side. I'm not sure if Moyes would trust him with the key role behind the striker though. Maybe he'll think that having an inexperienced right hand side with Coleman would be more risky and that at least Ross couldn't cost us a game playing off the striker?

Got to think positive - Playing Ross behind Jelavic could win us some games! I know thATMoyes doesn't think that way but we should.

He did well when he came on, but it was a weird game for him to make his debut this season, since very little football was really being played.

He looked pretty composed on the ball though, and was in a very good position when Pienaar put that shot wide at the very end of the game.

The thing I like most about him today was his composure. Looked far less panicked and nervous. Could be his short-term loan did him well for the playing time he got.

Even if Neville is back looks like he'll get playing time with the ban. Looking forward to it on my part. Hope he takes advantage.

I dread to think about the state of his knees after that performance, running around like that without a care in the world. His legs are probably going to fall apart like a wet cake tonight.
