Ross Barkley

You see him as the next Leon Osman aswell? Hmm he wont come good until hes 30 then. He'll just be a good squad player for 6-7 years then finally excell.

Hes much better than Osman ever was.

Well not necessarily the next Osman. Just that we probably won't see him as a first team player until the age of around 23. There's no point rushing him. None at all.

Based on what? Nothing but hype, I'm afraid.

People are saying that all the Wednesday fans were raving about his performances in the Championship, but they weren't. They could tell that they had a good player on their hands, in a similar way to how Derby fans could tell that Osman was going to be a good player, but they were also making comments about how he is defensively suspect.

He could do with another couple of years learning his trade in the Championship, and if Barkley is already better than Osman, then why isn't he being picked for the senior England squad?

If he is played in his proper position of attacking midfield that wont really be a problem.

I still can't work out how if he only came back because of injuries he came on at Stoke?

And if he's not ready why did he come on at Stoke?

And if he was ready to come on at Stoke how come he wasn't ready to come on in any other games?

Just doesn't make sense. He came on away at Stoke and done ok which was fine, no one sensible is expecting him to put in a world class performance when he plays. But its those kind of sub appearances that he needs to keep getting.

I don't remember him giving the ball away any more than any other player or costing us the game like people claim he will, all the minutes he can get will help him out and therefor help us out.

He can only learn by playing games, be it full games in the Championship or subs in the Premier league, either way he won't learn more than he already knows sitting on our bench.

And same goes for any young inexperienced player, half the preparation for them "being ready" to play regularly in the Premier League involves giving them game time as and when you can. No player goes from being in the reserves to playing every minute in the first team.

No, based on seeing both Osman and Barkley at the age of 19.

I said Barkley is much better now than Osman ever was at his age. Osman has had a decent Everton career but has only became a fans favourite the last couple of seasons, in general hes been a boo boy like Hibbert.

Wednesdays fans agree (in general) that he will definately be a future England player. They also agree (in general) that he was their best performer but just didnt fit into what they had. Ive read through their forums since he webt there.

Agreed some fans didnt rate him (too flash etc) but you will get that everywhere. Hes got thd best touch and composure of sny youngster at Everton since Rooney

This this this. Its all about the Status Quo with some people though.

It's the other way round, if anything.

Well, from a large section of our support it is.

Osman is carried in our midfield........ allowed to misplace passes, mis hit shots, lose tackles, and become invisible for 30 minutes at a time. Tolerated for sporadic moments of good interplay, and the odd goal.

Then we come to the big one off games, cup semis, finals, derbies, or physical games away to Bolton, Stoke (WBA away this year) etc, and we end up playing with ten men with Osman invisible.

He's had some incredible leeway from Moyes and the crowd.

Ross Barkley will become Evertons Steven Gerrard and if the fingers come out of the boards arses he will stay he for the majority of his career. Built around him the team will "win" things with a local lad their main man.

I aint afraid to say it. Thats how good I think he'll be. Ive seen enough....

Just blew my load....

Well that's exactly what I am basing my opinions on, Osman and Barkley's performances whilst still in a stage of development.

The Derby fans raved over Osman (in the Championship) in a very similar way to the Wednesday fans reaction to Barkley (in the Championship), except they weren't making noises about him being defensively suspect.

Time will tell as to whether Barkley's career proves to be more illustrious than that of Osman's, but I feel you are downplaying Osman's ability whilst simultaneously over-hyping Barkley's.

My main point is that he is still has a lot to learn, and that I don't think he is ready to start Premier League games yet, and that he would very much benefit from spending a couple more years playing in the Championship.

I'm sorry but I'm more inclined to agree with your mate, who has described Osman as being a 'boo boy' for large parts of his career. Whereas Barkley comes on at Stoke, does absolutely feck all of note, and it's being cited as a reason to play him.

I'm not arguing that Leon Osman is an amasing player who is as good as Paul Gascoigne was. I just think he is a decent player, who can be very good on occasions.

I'd rather we loaned him to a mid table prem side (except the rs) than see him on the bench. I'd much prefer it if he was getting regular minutes for us. That is not the same as saying he should be playing every minute of every game.

Sounds very similar to something you'd read on RAWK. Far too similar.
