Ross Barkley

Yes very impressed yesterday, just as I was with him in the U20's WC. If we're playing 4-2-3-1 he'll no doubt be challanging osman for that ACM role. IMO although still a little work needed, he offers a bigger threat than ossie from that role.

The time is now for this kid, gonna be his big breakthrough year I have no doubt. I also think he could be the suprise young addition to the WC squad. The one you seem to get at every WC!!

I know its a line we hate but.....this year I think....

Barkley, Oveido and stones will almost be like new signings.

...I'm not convinced and still have real concerns, but the indication is he played well in the first half yesterday and nobody will be more delighted than me if I have to hold my hands up and say I was wrong about this kid.

Artetafan knows f'kall.

You heard.

*spits on floor*

I think Barkley will do well under Martinez as he's much more of a "put your arm round" manager than Moyes is. That sounds like he's going to give him a reach around but never mind.

Not fair. Moyes put his arm around players as he escorted them back to the reserves.

Just for clarity he only played the first half.

He played well. He obviously got enough ability to be a premiership midfielder on some level. What he needs now is first team football so he can advance past those youthul lapses in concentration he´s prone to (like all young players).

If Barkley had been a regular in the team last two seasons and we watched the way he played yesterday then I don't think there would be any question about whether he should be starting. He can't keep coming in and proving himself, he needs a run where he is entitled to drop below a high standard now and again and not have people wondering if there is something missing. Absolute class and will get better as soon as he knows he is a regular

...yep, I know. Young Eggs went to the game and was suitably impressed. One of my concerns after watching him quite a lot is that his contribution is fleeting, even when playing in his own age group. Apparently he was involved quite a bit yesterday and RM gave him a positive mention after the game. Looking forward to seeing the Barca boy....

I was a bit worried about Barkley at first, having heard the hype about him and not having seen much of him. But I think he just needs a run of games to show his true ability. The last few times i've seen him play at Arsenal, for England U 20's, and yesterday he's looked very good. I reckon he will go on to be a big player for us, providing we can keep him.

I was at the game yesterday and although Barkley did o k he did caught in possession a few times where he dwelled on the ball
I am sure he will be a great player for Everton and save them a lot of money, I trust Bobby to bring him along the right way.

Barkley has only struggled because he knew under Moyes, one bad performance and he was out. Just like Duffy, Vellios and so on...

If Martinez gives him 5 games to prove himself, then I'm pretty sure he will be a first team regular all season. He has the feet, confidence and attacking mind. Osman and Gibson are not even close when trying a searching through ball.

Yeah needs Martinez to get it right but needs as much love as he can get from the fans too. I agree about getting caught in possession now and again but think there does become situations where we are looking out for it with some players and not others. Billy was a disappointment but it did soon become obvious that Donovan could come in and lose possession just as much as Billy and be cheered for his efforts. Which often is the way it should be if they are doing it in the right areas. Barkley's major weakness is that he is thinking too much at times about how much he has to do. Just seems being in and out of the team unless its for tactical reasons will make this worse. Looks to have enough passion to overcome it all eventually but I get so much more excited when he receives the ball than Osman or Pienaar.

Showed some of his potential vs. Blackburn. I'd love to see him get a run of games (not necessarily starts) to see how quickly he can grow to meet the challenge of premier league football.

I'd have him over Osman every day. Osman makes me fume when he tries those peashooter shots that roll along the floor...EVERY GAME.

5 mins into the first half yesterday blackburn had a corner and ross let his man run clean past him and have a free header which went just wide. 1 minute later he was up outside their box dinking past defenders and getting a shot away.

He looks really, really promising but he hasn't played more because of his injury and he needs to learn the defensive side and some basics. That's only natural for a young player and will all come now he's ready for the 1st team.

Can't wait to see him play more & develop, him & Deulofeu could really freshen things up for our attack this season.

I can definitely see him in the team this season, he just needs a good run of games and his confidence will get better, under moyes his confidence was probably low as hell coz one mistake he would be dropped. I can see Martinez getting the best out of him.

Yesterday he looked impressive he did lose the ball a few times and needs to improve his defensive side and man marking on set pieces, like 'Griffla' said, a run of games will obviously improve that. He is attack minded loves having the ball, quick feet and always looking to pass forwards, through balls etc just what we need.

The thing is when he is playing we're all just watching him more than anyone else so when he does make a mistake we all remember it and think more of the negatives about him rather than the positives, like if we just watched the game and didn't focus on him we wouldn't notice them as much if you get me.

I can't wait to see him get a run of games and happy now he has more chances in doing so now Moyes has gone.
