Ross Barkley

Couple of things. I never said City were going to sign Barkley, not even close. What I said was I'd love City to sign him because I rate him. There's a huge difference between my personal view of a footballer and City's interest or capacity to buy such player.

Really?

You said this;

It's just the start. The good word is that Begiristain has called Barkley his "legacy" signing at City and has expressed to Khaldoon that whatever the cost is, he will be worth it. I suspect it'll happen next summer rather than this

Typical lazy journalism. Everton still a 'selling club' in the mind of the media, City have money, need English players.

Just as with the Deulofeu articles a week ago there's nothing to it except conjecture based on nothing.

One paper runs it, the rest follow suit as it's a slow news day.

Move along, we've got Swansea tonight and the derby at the weekend.

You also still never mentioned your source and you only ever post on the Ross Barkley thread.

If you ask me it seems like you're trying to give us the impression that it's more or less inevitable so that it will make it easier if and when City do come in for him.

I don't care what you think pal. I only post in the Barkley thread because - shock horror - I rate him.

I don't need to try and leave you with any impression. I post in good faith and don't need to wum. Believe me if I wanted to wind you lot up it wouldn't be difficult as even basically what you are all saying, the story is bollocks, is met with the usual snide sneering from a small minority of know nowts.

I had to later explain that "I suspect it'll happen next summer rather than this" was simply in reference to City bidding for him. I also repeatedly said that Everton are building a strong team and that they have no reason to sell if Kenwright does the right thing.

It was also under the cloud of the Toure situation. That situation has been resolved and he will sign a new contract before the season is out. City bidding for Barkley is therefore no on the agenda because the problem position is now Nasri's and the player they want has been identified.

Oh and for the third time. Why so itchy when i'm saying the story is bollocks. Should I believe Adversus' nonsense that i'm pretending. Yeah right. I've got better things to do, which I'll now get on with.

Because you arrived spouting that the source of it wasn't City - which by definition means that it was one of the other 2 parties i.e. the player or EFC - do you see how that might make a Blue 'tetchy'? When questioned you then came up with some jarg about your supposed source, which I suspect is as jarg as the comment I quoted above. So don't let me stop you getting on with your important business mate.

I would not worry about what's written in the papers.

I'd be concerned about the role of his agent. If someone was to offer a contract in the region of 150k and a nice cut of the transfer fee most agents would rock the boat to get him to leave.

Unless we get in the CL in the next couple of seasons i think he will go, half way through his contract, at that stage he will have improved and become more consistent - possibly starting for Team GB and so on.

Its a hard fact, that the club has to look out for his interests and if we dont get there he will want to play in the CL etc. An important lesson has to be learned from the Rooney sale, he was worth double if not triple what Utd payed and we were had. Hes certainly been worth more to Utd then the 28 mill they paid.

Spurs are an example here they held Bale untill he fullfilled his potential and got close to 100 mill for him - the deal, if we dont get there has to suit the club.

1 question I would ask regarding Ross and his loyalty to Everton, how come Rom, Seamus, Stones all signed 5 year deals but Ross only signed for 4 years? Whilst no one can be sure I think I read somewhere his new deal is worth 60 grand a week meaning in 18 months time, bearing in mind he'll be be a major player for England by then, he'll be expecting 100 grand a week to stay. Long story short, we won't be able to afford him pretty soon, therefore this season will probably be his last in an Everton shirt if we don't make the top 4 which is looking pure fantasy at the minute

I thought under 23's could only sign max of 4 years..

But then Stones.. hmmmm

Citeh would probably love to sign him, but not at any cost.
If the price is too steep for them they'll just wander off and buy someone else. I doubt very much Ross would go anyway. BMG has nailed it, just move on.

Said it before about Ross, if we sell him I'm giving up on Everton. I absolutely mean it.

I'll support Southport.
Southport don't want you either... lol

Barkley is a disposable asset. I'd flog him for 40 mil, buy Dembele and a.n.other and strengthen the team as a whole. We've not needed Barkley this season and haven't/won't miss him..

Sometimes, Barkley has done brilliant things for Everton on the pitch...but is it only me who thinks that at present his game lacks any kind of consistency? This may well come , of course, and there is no doubt that Ross can be a very good player. I can't recall a RUN of great games he has played, and sometimes he disappears from games for a length of time. The point I am making, is that despite the hype, it is not a guarantee that Ross will become 'a world star' ,' the best of his generation' or anything. He is still a 'young, developing player'. He has had one major injury, already, and has missed the start of this season through injury. Hopefully he will not become 'injury prone'. When he returns to the Everton line up he will have pressure to perform like never before, because others will be pushing for his place. He may well become a superstar, but it is not, as some believe, a certainty.Given the way football is at present, anything above £55-60 million would be a good deal for Everton, and it is Everton that matters. Even if we got Bale type money, which wouldn't happen yet in the case of Ross, we would spend it in a better way than Spurs have done. Most( no...all)Prem clubs are prepared to sell their 'best' players if the time is right and the money is right.
That screams out to me too..

Isn't it funny the previous potential 'worldies' people forget we had... Jeffers, Cadamatri etc etc...

No he isn't. He's symbolic in a number of ways. He represents a sign of progress made, of shaking off the selling club mentality, he represents a lot of the local support on the pitch and he is a talent I really really don't want to see flogged at any price.
