Ross Barkley

It it does mate. 15million isn't worth much these days in football and it would be worth a loss to send a message that we won't be pushed into selling anyone. After 25 id take as I honestly don't think he's worth more than that anyway. It's as I said before, if we get the right offer then by all means sell him. But we have to squeeze everything we can.

Im trying to take the emotion out of it all really and looking at it from a business POV.

We have a player that im not entirely sure our manager even rates, hes been offered by all accounts a reasonable contract, now whether we have said thats that or whether he has requested talks to improve it, nobody knows, but all the signs point towards the fact that hes happy to leave and it seems our Manager is happy to move him on.

Spurs seem interested, probably cos getting Barkley for under 50m would be considered a no brainer in this market, so now its all about getting as much from the deal as we possibly can, its not about STICKING it to Spurs, the reason we mugged Chelsea off is cos they opened their traps like clowns, Spurs havent said anything, neither have we, as I say, currently its about getting as much as we can, cos in 6 weeks time hes worth NOTHING.

The echo and other superb papers are going to build whole pages of articles around his bloody tweet about Federer winning Wimbledon.

Business point of view - £30 million seems like a fair amount, but I don't see how we would replace him with a young, first back up player (not first choice, but in the first team squad) and English
Ross' point of view - how's he going to get regular matches with Delli Ali and others in ahead of him
Spurs - is he really an improvement? You finished 2nd and scored loads
EFC - need to make him work and make it work for him. Just give it 2 years, tell him that if you sign, improve and do well next summer we can renegotiate your contract.

jeez. I feel like Koeman is really stubborn about this and can't go back even if he wants to.

Just need to get him sold for the highest price we can get. Was told sign or be sold so get rid ... no point sticking him in the under 23 s as it not going to help any of the lads trying to break through .. sit tight and wait till deadline day and someone will pay the money ... !

If he doesn't go, he's not going to be shafted to the U23s. He'll remain part of the first team. And rightly so, he's one of our best players.

But, I agree with @MorgsGoat above. The scenario he put forward is likely the truth, and it's now just waiting to see what happens.

The media will paint the Gylfi deal as Ross' replacement, but Gylfi was always a target.

I suppose the alleged vigour we're having in getting Gylfi does suggest that Ross is, sadly, edging towards the exit, though.

If Ross said today that he's sign the deal, this wouldn't be an issue.

Koeman hasn't taken away the pen or paper. The deal is there, ready for him to sign.

Ross hasn't signed it - yet. This is the issue...

Kieran Dowell would love a shot
If he wants first team position then a CL club isn't for him, he said he wants CL
No he doesn't improve Spurs
EFC have done enough for him and he now needs to make it work

Many people seem to be selectively blind/deaf to the fact that he said to Koeman he wants CL... I guess he feels like Lukaku and wants it given to him without bringing the club there, it's possible, I think probable... Maybe he doesn't love the club as much as some people love having a local boy playing for the club... he's a professional footballer and other factors are involved that go beyond being a fan e.g Rooney... Forget about him being a blue and then look at it, people's judgement is clouded by it

But to totally ignore the business POV, from a fans POV I really want him to stay, I just really dont think he loves us, hes had his head turned with promises of dabbing with Ali and Dier and being able to go out in town without having his head on a swivel.

Lot of people blame Koeman and sure, hes defo a reason, but he just wanted to push Ross to improve, sadly hes only helped push him out of the door, its not THE REASON, its a factor, when you look at it from Ross POV, what reasons does he have to stay? Hes an Everton fan, thats the ONLY reason for him to stay. Some would say that should be enough, but its probably not.

I think we've got to take the contract off the table in the next few days and move on. He's had an age to decide and if he still declines by next weekend then tough. We have a competitive game in 10 days and can't let it drag on into August. Sign, or be frozen out on the transfer list.

You know when someone does an overtake in their car and they look into your car and your eyes meet brefily giving each other the stink eye?

Well that's what Everton will do next year to Ross when he and Spurs fail at Wembley, before leaving them to rot in a cloud of exhaust fumes.

It's simple. If Spurs don't match our valuation Ross should go nowhere (a little less is acceptable to get the deal but otherwise better to leave it). I'd rather we were spiteful and lost money to deny Spurs their man and destroy Barkleys chances at the world cup. Harsh maybe but I only care about Everton and I'm happy for us to be perceived as the bad guys by some if that means clubs and players alike know they can't take the mick out of us.
I don't think it's as much about being spiteful as not being held to ransom by one of our players or by one of our competitors. It's send the wrong message plus, with the squad we appear to be building I genuinely see Spurs as one of our major competitors next season. Why let them have a top notch player for a bargain price.

That's my point. Sit tight and wait for the right offer . If he doesn't want to sign for us we just need to get the best money we can. Come deadline day if we drag it out somebody will pay close to what we want ... crazy to give him to spurs on the cheap .. levy will give him a contract and sell him on for a profit !

We aren't a perennial top 4 club, and until we are we have to be player frandly. We cannot get away with ruining careers until our name becomes so big players have no choice but to be wowed by our sexy
If you only care about Everton, why not just sell the player for 30m?

Cos I mean your way Everton loses, not only does it pay a player for 12months, but it then loses the 30m we could have got for the player 12months previously.

Its in Evertons best interests to sell the player for 30m and move on.
I see where you are coming from but I think at some stage we need to start behaving like a "big top 4" club.

We need to start standing up to these clubs and players who feel they can hold us to ransom, otherwise we'll continue to be looked upon as little Everton, the selling club. If we fold over Barkley other clubs/players would be encouraged to do the same. We held out for a good fee on both Stones and Lukaku and we have to do the same over Barkley, irrespective of how long he has left on his contract. Burnley did it to us with Keane. Arsenal will do it with Sanchez and Ozil. Barkley should either go for close to our valuation or not at all. If he stays he needs to fight for his place in the team which I think he will do, especially if he has any hopes of playing in the world cup.

If we lose out on a £25m fee then that is unfortunate, but that's the price we have to pay if we're going to be taken seriously as a club on the up.

We can afford to take a stance when its John Stones with 3 or 4 years left or even Lukaku with 2 years, we cant afford to take a stance on a player who refuses to sign a new contract and by all accounts has made it clear he wants to move on.

At this point its about getting the best fee and moving on.
