I wonder if those lot ever abused Gerrard or Carragher as we do Barkley?
agreed about him needing to step up, he's been pretty meh for the past month or so with the odd exception.
i don't like how martinez uses him at all, think he's being wasted and has had the flair aspect of his game neutralised too much.
think stan collymore hit the nail on the head in his most recent article when he questioned why Barkley constantly comes back to anchor midfield role to collect the ball. Sure he can play the deeper role well and now and then it lets him burst from deep but ultimately it doesn't get the best out of him.
I still maintain that the Barkley of 13/14 was a more dangerous player than he is today, his overall game has improved as has his decision making etc but he looked way more dangerous then than he has last and this season. Plus he took way more risks... and they often came off.
Now he's Ross Barkley. He's tightly marked.
Have noticed that more of late, everytime he picks the ball up now, he's got at least two players bearing down on him.
The bit that gets me is that he doesnt just vanish. He, rightly or wrongly, comes deeper and deeper to pick up the ball. To take responsibility. If there isnt anything on he checks, goes sideways or backwards AND THEN re-shows for the ball hoping for a different angle or opportunity to play forward.
And in return he receives dogs.
Brilliant. Well played 'fans'.

This is the game, Ross. Get us to the final.

Would love it, love it, just love it if tomorrow evening Ross goes on a mazy Newcastle-esque dribble and sticks one in top corner right in front of the City fans... and then second half, does it again in front of the travelling Blues.
