Ross Barkley

Coutinho was nominated for YPOTY a last season and he was 22. Ross was 21 when the Season started so qualifies for it regardless. Its under 24 i think, well used to be.

Ali is also playing for a team that could win the league, so looks more impressive.

Ross is magic for me though, completely controls a game, so good.

......I had more than doubt until one moment at Norwich away a few seasons ago when he scored that screamer with his left foot. Only very good footballers score a goal of that quality. Since then he has frustrated me, his assist, his goal scoring record and his lack of consistency belied his ability.

He's been great this season, truly top drawer and nobody is more chuffed than me.

The only reason Ross frustrates me this year is how many times his shot is blocked. He's got to back away a bit more from defenders and stop telegraphing it so often. But he's still scoring even with all the times he cant even get a shot away. I could see him with a ton of goals if he can get a shot away quicker.

That was a superb performance

He does get many shots blocked but that can lead to deflected goals like we saw on Saturday.

....amazing how many deflected goals Frank Lampard had from outside the box. Big change with Barkley is his desire to hit the box and score goals from close range (in the same way Lampard did throughout his career).

He's seeing enough of the ball to make the argument that he's ready to drop deeper and start dictating games now.

Reminds me of Dembele, with a bit of Yaya Toure thrown in for good measure.

Better than Dembele like (well, maybe not Dembele at his peak a few years ago but very close).

Has that same strength and agility to just breeze past players. We take it for granted but any other side in the league would beg to have that quality in their side

Personally I thought he went backwards last season, he got an injury early doors and it really knocked the lad for 6, coupled with the moans and groans from the Goodison crowd it hurt the lad. It could have gone another way, but instead he put his head down and believed in his talent, which is unmeasurable, he can be whatever he wants to be.

I said a few years ago that Jack Rodwell could be anything he wanted to be, young Jack had a cracking head on his shoulders and was very talented, sadly injury has robbed the poor lad of the career that could have been.

Ross has just grown and grown this season, hes taking games by the scruff and hes proving that the hype was real, still makes mistakes in games and still dwells on the ball at times, but he has everything in his locker to be a real player, hes a strong lad on the ball, can pick a pass and isnt afraid to put his foot through the ball, hes 22 years old so his "mistakes" shouldnt be highlighted, sadly we and yes I include myself, but we as a fanbase like to highlight the bad things our young players do.

We have a supremely talented lad here, who, like us, worships Everton, Martinez chats utter wham, but we really do have a diamond in Ross Barkley.
