Ross Barkley

Again, we have two defensive midfielders.

If you want to criticise people for being overrun in midfield, look no further than Mr. Anonymous James McCarthy, who isn't doing his job.

You're absolutely wrong to blame Barkley for the job of other people in the team. It's just a basic lack of footballing understanding.
Gibson was about 15 yards too deep all afternoon so McCarthy was isolated a lot. It was a big task to ask Gibson to go the 90. Basic would Have been better but he played him at RB instead of a half fit Hibbert or Oviedo. Tough choices but probably the wrong ones.

A job that fat lazy Barkley point-blank refuses to help out with.

You know? Like it's the rest of the team's job to pass to Barkley, as well as put in a tackle, mark someone.....even run a little?

He's not fat, or lazy.

Again, showing your ignorance. You want a headless chicken; I don't. I want a top class playmaker, and I'd rather he continued his efforts to be one rather than "run around" a bit in a stupid attempt to shut up fans who haven't got a clue about what he's meant to be doing.

Save your breath lad it's like talking to a wall

And you're criticising martinez - who's allowed exactly that to happen in order to indulge Barkley?

You're not having it both ways, Tubey.

Eh?

Martinez plays with two defensive midfielders. As such, Barkley plays as a playmaker far beyond them. That's what he does.

The system doesn't work, as we don't get attacking players forward when we attack for him to "make the play". If we did, you'd see Barkley collecting the ball and distributing, like he did earlier in the season and to great effect in Martinez's first season. The issue since then is the full backs don't attack properly and our wingers are always in their own half.

That's the problem. I don't even know what your question is meant to be.

I'm just not sure what people are expecting McCarthy and Barry / Gibson / Besic / Whoever to be doing

If McCarthy had bothered his arse this season to actually go about tackling anyone other than Payet once we wouldn't even be having this debate

No, I don't. Kindly don;t second-guess me.

I nwant him to AT THE VERY LEAST mark a player instead of letting them breeze past him at will.

What's your problem with that?.

Because, again, that's not his job.

His job is to be as far away from his marker as possible, in dangerous space for an Everton counter attack to build off.

If he chases people everywhere, he can't do that. He can't do both - he isn't played as a box to box midfielder, yet you are criticising him for not being one.

SO WHAT if martinez plays two defensive midfielders? Are they capable of marking or tackling more than one man ffs?

I agree with you but he can 100% add better appetitite for pressing, tackling and winning the ball back to his game. Just look at Rooney's desire to track lukaku.

Rooney isn't Barkley. He's a ratter, a driving force of energy combined with tremendous technique. Rooney is more like Gerrard in that role than he is Barkley.

Barkley does not need to do anything defensively. It'd be not playing to his strengths. It'd be akin to asking a prime Berbatov or Ibrahimovic to sprint around for 90 minutes; it wouldn't make sense.
