If roy had any testicles left in that withered sack of his he'd build the midfield around Barkley

You don't win tournaments with a midfield three of delph, milner and shelvey. You don't even get out the group stages. Christ and Henderson will be in there come euros

Sure theyre all less likely to give the ball away than ross but theres not a creative spark between them.

I don't think you've seen much of Smalling in that case then.
As for Barkley vs. Shelvey so far, thats open for debate. They've had a draw and a win vs. Chelsea and united and are unbeaten so far, whilst Ross has had two good games and two poor ones. Shelvey is so far the more consistent player.

Smalling was very good last season.

I don't really understand the argument that a team needs to be built around him. He's simply a No 8 box to box midfielder and playing him with Rooney ahead as a No 8 is the way to go and Switzerland even looked less dangerous after the change. England like all team's should attack as a team and defend as a team and there should be no reason why playing Barkley further back leaves them open besides Rooney is a borderline midfielder now anyway.

Based on his current England and Everton form why would he build a team around him?

I don't think they're overly comparable besides being young and English.

Good ball playing CD much harder to come by that an attacking full back.

Also, he lacks end product considering his position, in his break out season for Southampton he got 1 assist and no goals. Got over hyped and placed in team of the year. Baines got about 5 goals and 5 assists in the same year. Even Clyne got 5 I think in the same team. 15m-20m would have been about right.

He was ok, looked fitter, but lost the ball a lot, and wonders all over the field.

Wilshire and Barkley operate quite well together when they've played. They make space for each other.

As has been pointed out - why on earth would England 'build a midfield' around Barkley. The distance between the hype this lad gets and what he actually does on a football pitch is just light years.
Pretty sure Shelvey will have more assists than Ross in the last year for a start.
