working with martinez should really have taken his attacking game to the next level, but i think in reality it zapped all his confidence and has derailed his game awareness progress, which is critical when trying to prove yourself in the prem.

You say stats are not accurate that's plain wrong of course there accurate that's the point of them.

I suppose you mean they don't accurately depict a players game.

However I genuinely believe Barkley is a player who isn't always fairly represented by stats instead he is better than They suggest.

He's better than they suggest? How is that possible ?when he can get a tick in the chance created column just by taking a crap corner? So he's actually better than scholes etc at the same age? Seeing as his stats are similar apparently?

I'll give you a couple of examples Henderson when Liverpool finished second was passing to Suarez 30 yards out bang goal Henderson assist. He is awful granted playing well currently but he is a poor excuse for a footballer.

Chelsea home Martinez season one Naismith header osman got the assist but Barkley drew 3 men & held them off then cushioned a pass for osman to cross first time yet osman gets the assist.

Arsenal away Barkley runs the length of the pitch leaves 3 players for dead hits a wicked cross lukaku gets a touch on the cross mirallas scores Barkley gets no asssist.

If you can't see what the lad has then sorry but you don't understand football

I work largely with stats & the reason so many dislike them is that they don't understand how to interpret them. Stats don't lie there a measurement of something the lie is when they are twisted or misinterpreted.
 
I like Barkley, I hope he becomes the player we want him to be . His assists and goals speak for themselves. However the fact remains that in the centre of midfield we need players who dominate and shape the play defensively and offensively. If he can't achieve this he will become peripheral to any squad.

Don't agree with you Simon, you can get half a dozen statisticians (there's a word!) with the same statistics and you can get six different " interpretations" of them.

Stats in no way tell somebody what they want to know.

They are literally a visual representation of facts.

While i'm not arguing that everybody isn't entitled to their own opinions, or that stats can't be twisted one way or another, the actual numbers themselves can't be argued with.

That's my point the original discussion started by someone saying he just passes backwards I said he doesn't.

If you go on squawka he has made 42 passes per game 23 forward & 19 back on average hardly every pass backwards is it

Barkley also got an assist for passing the ball to Naismith 25 yards out to score vs Chelsea... and again when he gave the ball to lukaku on the touchline 40 yards from goal before he beat 5 players and the goalie against Chelsea ...so basically your aurgument against Henderson applies to Barkley too
 
Thought he really offered nothing vs Chelsea. Not that anyone did, but expected him to just have a few pops at goal in the second half knowing we hadn't even had a shot etc.

He actually closed down his own man in the first half, pointing for him to pass it backwards too. Pointless.

You are better than this Ross.
