Ross Barkley

Agree but the problem is that he hasnt got the defensive discipline to play in a 2 - his midfield partner would be completely exposed, so needs 2 defensive minded players next to him.

If one of them is Barry, it doesnt really work either as he is tactically excellent but hasnt got the legs. It worked tonight as Gana and McCarthy had the legs and pace to cover a vast amount of ground.
I agree but for me he either plays deeper in a 3 or not at all, not clever enough to play number 10.

Rubbish, this season he has had 2 poor games, and a couple where everyone was poor. In the other 7 or 8 he has been decent.

Completely blown out of proportion his form.
Couldn't agree more with this. People act like he's been terrible when the whole team has underperformed. There's no question our midfield has been much worse without him in it, which tells you all you need to know.

In an ideal world we'd have bought a number 10 in the summer that could have carried some of the burden of being the playmaker for the team, and Ross would have had a much easier time this season.

If you think about Dele Alli at Spurs, it's a massive help to him to have a player like Eriksen alongside him, because it means the team doesn't rely on him to create everything. They play with a number of midfielders who are comfortable on the ball, who pass well, and who create chances. I know they're different players, but I think it's worth bearing in mind: when Barkley plays we're totally reliant on him to be the ball-player in the final third.

He plays in the Derby with that fight he showed on Tuesday and goodison will fall in Iove all over again with him.

More than any player I can remember, Ross needs a great Derby performance where he dominates the game, and think this is going to be it, could be the defining moment where he turns his career around, he's all about confidence.

If he works hard without the ball, the crowd will forgive his little mistakes.

Barkley, like Rooney was hyped up for a couple of seasons before breaking through. We saw a glimpse of a World Class Rooney before he left, and we're desperate for Barkley to hit the same heights, but with us. I think that's why the crowd gets frustrated with him.

I believe if he works hard off the ball, the crowd get behind him and his game will improve. It's all about confidence for him, but he needs to put in the effort.

Rooney was twice the player at 16 that Ross will ever be, let's be honest. No comparison whatsoever.
