Imagine if he left on a free?, the ultimate betrayal from a player brought up through the ranks of his boyhood team.

Didn't he once say he'd never do what Rooney did because he remembers how much it hurt him as a fan.
So even when he speaks he chats wham. Sooner the whole thing is over one way or another I will relieved. Can't see him staying as no idea how he gets into the side now anyway.

I can understand his thoughts process.

He missed the Euros and he hasn't been called up since so maybe he thinks he needs a new challenge.

Koeman had to answer so many questions about him last season it became a witch hunt and Koeman was blowing smoke up his a-hole like Martinez.

Koeman is the first manager who challenged him and he responds with spitting his dummy out and walking away.

At his age, he should be 1st choice and in the England squad. Sadly I think he won't get that at Everton, Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea.

Potential is all well and good but Rodwell, Gosling, Jeffers are prime examples that potential isn't enough, you need that drive so I hope finds it elsewhere but once he leaves us, F HIM!

I've criticised Ross as much as anyone for some of his performances over the last couple of years. I think part of this is he doesn't have a position to call his own. I don't think he's see the centre midfielder other People seem to think he is, as I don't think he can tackle and he doesn't control games or have enough influence like the top centre minds have. You only have to look at the influence Davies has had in games already to see the difference in types of player the 2 if them are, and how even at his young age, Davies has the Nouse and tactical awareness of when to go and and when to stay.

I also don't think he's clever enough to be the number 10 others think he is, mostly down to his decision making and the time he takes on the ball, he always seems to take 10 touches when 1 will do.

But that being said, he clearly does have lots of ability. He has a great 1st touch, good close control, he has skill, can dribble, he is strong, he is fast, and he can certainly shoot.

So that begs the question, where should he play?

If he does end up staying, and bear in mind we now have Sigurdsson, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Klaassen, even Rooney, who are now all ahead of him in the pecking order, all of whom possess some or all of the different qualities Ross lacks, that we maybe we could try playing Ross as a Striker?

I think it could suit him, and us, and potentially save us a fortune in the process. I think it would take away the onus from him of having to create or make the decisions, get forward and back all the time, which is something he's struggled with, and would also give him a position he can try and make his own.

As well as the other qualities I listed before, he is also a big lad who's not bad in the air, and wins his fair share of defensive headers from opposition corners. And he can hold the ball up better than Rom ever could too

Just a thought anyway, but if he does end up staying, it could be worth trying out. And if I'm not mistaken, he even said in an interview not so long ago that he thinks his preferred position is a striker, so maybe there's something in it.
Tall, two-footed (cannon feet), can handle the ball, quick, strong, good in one-on-ones... sounds like the qualities of a good striker. It could have ended up being his best position. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like he is considering the possibility of staying.

It's certainly something I'd like to see him try. I get the feeling with Ross though that the weaknesses he has would hinder him in any position he plays. A striker still needs to make a decision on where to be, when to go, when to hold off, when to just have a crack. I'd love to see him succeed here, even if it meant trying him as a striker I just worry his weaknesses will always stop him reaching that top level in any position. It's such a shame because he has about 90% of what's takes to be a top top player

I wondered this yonks ago. The further back he plays the more we worry about him giving the ball away so play him as far forward as possible. That was my logic anyway.

You make some very good points there, however I think there's too many bridges been burnt with him and Koeman for him to come back into the fold.

However, as we all know much stranger things have happened in footy in the past.

Unfortunately due his current injury and his recovery period, I suspect we'll have a striker signed before he's properly fit again.

I think Barkley could effectively play that secondary striker role, like Dele does for Spurs. Just needs to be given license to try things without worrying about losing the ball.

Looking at our squad now we lack a bit of pace and power going forwards. Barkley gives us that, it'd be great if he came back on board.

It's not great if he is not signing a new deal and runs down his contract. No reason to give him game-time when other Everton players are committed and have long contracts with the club.

Hopefully they have him in that role ... for the under 15s for the rest of the season before the Judas leaves on a free next summer.
