The club wanted to play it their way and it was all going nicely. Decent fee and not to Spurs. However Ross didn't want to be pushed into that and realised he can have the last laugh by saying no.

Not as dumb as we think he is.

If the lad wanted to go to Spurs why not just swallow our pride and negotiate with them if they matched the £35m fee. I think us being spiteful and not giving him the move he wanted has cost us his fee and unsettles the dressing room for the next 6-12 months.

A reasonable possibility on the list of possibilities that don't all end with burning the player at the stake.

Both him and the club will gladly pretend that he is injured for the next 4 months

Do you honestly believe that spurs would have matched the 35m? No chance, they have been tapping him up for months and know he is going there, he's injured so there is absolutely no rush in this window.

So why's he gone to Chelsea, agreed terms and arranged/had a medical mate?

When just refusing to entertain entering discussions would have had the same outcome?
