Do you honestly believe that spurs would have matched the 35m? No chance, they have been tapping him up for months and know he is going there, he's injured so there is absolutely no rush in this window.
Well if the reports are to be believed we weren't given the chance to.

So why's he gone to Chelsea, agreed terms and arranged/had a medical mate?

When just refusing to entertain entering discussions would have had the same outcome?

Maybe they came in with a good offer which made him think twice due to Spurs holding out on bidding ?

It's a life changing decision, people can change their minds or get cold feet even at the last moment.

Except he agreed terms with Chelsea, had literally signed a contract and was in the process of having a medical.

So unless you're suggesting he had spite levels so high that he was prepared to go to that extreme to have the last laugh, when simply refusing to enter discussions with Chelsea would have had the exact same effect and outcome, then what you're saying does not make sense.

But he hadnt literally signed a contract as he would be a Chelsea player wouldn't he. You can verbally agree terms all you want. Until you sign on the dotted line (which of course would be after the medical- as a team is not going to put it under you nose until the medical is complete) then you are still an Everton player.

The penny actually dropped for him during the process that he doesn't actually need to be pushed into anything by the club as he holds all the cards. During the worldwind of transfer of deadline day I can easily see this happening.

Ok, with him staying it may not unsettle the dressing room. But we have lost our fee which we are all bitter about. My question is why not the club just accept Spurs?

But he'd been "tapped up" mate apparently.

I'd buy that he maybe decided to see what numbers they'd throw his way, but he'd seen those, agreed to them and signed the contract.

You're telling me that in the space of a few hours, after being perfectly happy with those terms, that he'd decided to go back to 'Plan A' and sit it out at the last possible minute, with nothing acting as a trigger to do so whatsoever?

It's possible but... that's one hell of a stretch mate. I wonder what Spurs made in that scenario seeing Ross, their "tapped up" future superstar, rocking up to Chelsea for a medical this evening?

You do all realise that it would be very much in Moshiri's interest to spin this as Ross being a rat to take the heat off himself and the board for failing to sign a well known striker and CB?

Sure, but which well-known striker and CB did he fail to lure to Everton? Even though clubs and players know we're minted now, could well be the quality of player needed just wasn't available without the club getting totally bent over. Look at the Sigurdsson saga.

This has nothing to do with any other player, signed or not. This is about Ross Barkley. He has said nothing, he has signed nothing, he has kept most Evertonians on his side as a result. He knows that we will lose money by his behaviour, we had reduced his price. Chelsea made a decent offer, the champions, in the CL, offering the highest wages, in London, and he screwed us again. Forget Moshiri, this is down to Ross. Even if he comes out tomorrow and says he loves the club and will sign for nothing I would get shut, he has treated the fans, you and I, abysmally. Torches and pitchforks are too good for him.......this is the club we love and he is taking the piss.........

It's a good question and one that I have no idea what the answer is.
Hopefully he comes out to.orrow and says he wants to stay, but I'm not holding my breath.
We have all been saying for weeks that the situation is perfect for Levy to do his last minute thing and save a fortune.
I have no idea why he wouldn't just say no to Chelsea from the off though, the only thing that comes to mind is that his agent had almost convinced him, but Ross remembered all the fun that lay in store playing Patti cake with dele ali

They sign the papers before the medical, known as a deal sheet - it's the last step. He had literally signed for Chelsea, everything else was a formality.

The contract isn't official until it's submitted after the process is complete.

He's only had a year or so to think about it........
