Screw getting rid in January for a small fee, just keep him until summer and let him go on a free. It's World Cup year and if he wants to take part in it he'll have to start performing. I would imagine him being available for the remainder of the season would benefit us more than the peanuts we'd get from Spurs this January.

Honestly, what would we REALLY get if Barkley leaves? I'd bench him out of spite but that might explain why I'm not a billionaire.

He'd do wonders for our season tho
I certainly wouldn't sell him unless Spurs match what Chelsea offered.

Sends a bad message to other players wanting to run down their contract.

As for the World Cup. By then he won't be our player so I couldn't care less although with Deli Alli and Loftus cheek I doubt he will make the plane anyway.

Sends an awful message to other players with deals that are running down.

In fact it's going to become an increasingly bigger problem with transfer fees so high now.
what message does it send exactly? If you don't want to be here, we want to recoup our money? Of course.

I think it sucks that Ross would block the Chelsea deal and not sign a new contract and screw us over. But if Spurs is going to pay us 20M in January and we know he's leaving anyways, we need to take the money. Otherwise he'll be on Spurs next year regardless and we get nothing.

First Koeman now Big Sam as the excuse.

He only signed a 4 year deal because he had no interest staying here long term.

We should have sold when Koeman came in. He never even rated him anyway.
Uh, pretty much our whole team is on 4 year deals.

I know Ross is thick, but if you want out and the current champions offer you the chance to join them, double your wages and play alongside the likes of Willian, Hazard et al you probably should take them up on it, lol.
He has been told he will be a starter at Spurs. He knows he won't be at Chelsea.

After a grade 3 hammy tear, he's going to have to prove his fitness otherwise his dreams of a massive money bosman will be in tatters. Nasty injury that, and far from a given that it'll stand up in the medium / long term. He could be Mr Chocolate hammys

It depends how much the money is. But it will mean others will be tempted to do the same.
