How so? We agreed a £35m fee four months ago, he was actually at Cobham having his Chelsea medical. Now I’m guessing it went something along the lines of Chelsea seeing that he will be injured for at least 4 months, so asking him to hold off until January whilst we pay his medical bills, they can get a lower fee for him and hey don’t have to pay his wages for 4 months.

It is an absolute disgrace what has gone on here. I hope he has the worst luck throughout his entire career. The little bellend.

Agreed, but I also think it's the club's prerogative to make sure your most valuable assets aren't in the position where they can do this. Barkley was probably told if he waited til January it would be worth his while. This is a business, why would Chelsea sign a player for twice the price knowing he won't play until at least January? Barkley leaving, his fault. Not getting the fee he's worth? Definitely the clubs.

At least Chelsea are bidding now, Spurs (or Levy) wanted a proper freebie in the summer

The thing is the media picks the world cup squad for the English and good performances at Spurs or Chelsea will get more notice than they did at Everton

I don't think he will play enough. Not between now and end of season, anyway. You're right though, it's usually about who you play for.

I'll still be shocked if he doesn't go to Spurs for nowt in the summer. That's the long game. Chelsea know that and are trying their best to get in before them. We know what Barkley's agent will be recommending.

Chelsea are literally the worst possible place he could choose to go as well. Utter idiot if he goes there, he'll be sat on the bench week in week out. Where will he feature in that team? They don't play a cam so he's going to be out wide when he does play or further back in cm. Even willian isn't a consistent starter for Chelsea across the forward line. Neither is fabregas in cm. Enjoy the payday ya tool.

Lol.

Where will he expect to play ahead of Fabregas, Hazard, Bakayoko, Kante, Willian, Pedro, and even Drinkwater?
problem he is going to have is Chelsea have had some really good players over the last decade or so can he live with the pressure of trying to match up to what they expect every week, he will not get away with being good for a month then going missing the next one up there.

But he got the injury after the Chelsea medical thing did he not?

He will do well at Chelsea with class players at his level, he won't struggle for passing options and has the beast Kante who will mop up any loose passes. Gutted he is going and in the manner it has played out.

How Everton have escaped any blame in all this is amazing. He should never have been allowed to get to the stage where he has 1 year left on his deal. Did we assume that the fact that he's an 'Evertonian' means we dont have to worry about a new deal for him and take it for granted that he would just sign?

Terrible from the club.
We verbally agreed a deal with Dan gosling and never offered him the contract before his one ran out if you recall.

Also offered a player a longer contract than his work permit, or got a work permit for a player before we had agreed to sign him.

We even failed a player on a knee despite him never having an issue on his knees since then!

It's per the norm with our board.
