2017/18 Ross Barkley

Why does everyone assume he turned down a move in summer ? Logic suggests it was Chelsea that told him to wait and there were no other bids.... so please explain how we lost money that was never bid in the first place ?

It’s all asssumptions, literally no one here has a clue what happened, all we have is Moshiris word which means nothing after that McCarthy debacle.

Can't we all just be one big happy family? Apart from Ross. He can do one.

Yet we don't exactly know what happened. He may never have wanted to go to Chelsea and may not go there this time round. Or Chelsea may have pulled out. As much as I hate what he's doing, he isn't obliged to make sure he gets the biggest fee for us as possible. That's up to the club.
I agree he doesn't.

But at the same time he knows as a fan of the club that his actions are negative for the club. So he is willingly making those decisions despite the impact the lack of transfer fee would have.

Essentially it's like leaving your job that you spent 23 years at, it's part of you no matter what. But not completing a deal that will earn your now former company a lot of money despite tbere being a lack of money previously, that is conscious decisions not to pay your club back

All theoretical but he grew up a fan, he played for the club, we looked after him, put him in the team, paid him a lot of money and made him a star of the club. The least he could have done is paid the club back in a transfer fee that would replace him. I'm sorry but it's spiteful behaviour to the club that put him in a position to even move to a champions league club

There’s one reason and one reason only why he stayed here past the summer

Bigger wages this Jan or end of the season, as he knows his fee will be less and can demand a higher wage. He’s done us over whatever way you want to put it

But there is one thing for a fake story of a bid on deadline day and another thing that he was actually having his medical done! He would have had to have been there to even create that story

I could also speculate (key word there) that the lower the contract and by default, the lower the transfer fee to get him, the higher the signing on fee will be for him, and his reps. So there is a completely legitimate selfish reason for all of this as well.

But he's made his mind up that he's going, which is the part I find disappointing, I wouldn't expect him to go along with a transfer he might not want just because the club he's at get more money out of it. Which premier league player would ever say to themselves, 'you know what, the club have looked after me, I'm just going to go with the only offer on the table to say thanks to them'. That's if Chelsea did ever offer, or didn't pull out. I just don't accept that he cost us money. I still think that is the club's fault. It's the clubs fault that he was allowed to run that contract down.

So people want him to sign a new deal so we get £££ for him. What happens if he does that and Chelsea/Spurs look elsewhere? He's then stuck for another 4-5 years when he doesnt want to be here just to help the club out, thats a huge ask. Especially as its not like we would insert a nice £30mill release clause when we could get double that in todays market.

Basically the fact that we are losing money id on the club, not him. We offer him a deal when he's got 2 years left on his contract, he signs then great, if not sell for full value.

I honestly believe the club just took it for granted that he'd sign and ignored his contract.

It was widely reported that Ross denied ever having a medical at Chelsea and decided he wanted ‘more time’ to decide his future.

Barkley was uncomfortable with having to decide his future in a matter of hours and informed Chelsea that he wants to wait until January to make a decision on his next move.

He’s done us up like a kipper.

Fire up the Boo machine!

Totally unacceptable that the club had an improved contract in front of him for the better part of a year and he didn’t sign it! Unacceptable!

I understand the other point that they should have sold him as soon as he started dragging his feet but imagine Koeman’s first act being to sell off beloved boyhood Blue Ross Barkley. It would have been a complete debacle.

He's making himself look a proper prick. Who's his agent? I bet you Jags, Williams, Ferguson, Baines and even Kenny think he's a proper t***.

Why would he have had to of been there for the story to be created ? Since when did anything have to be true for a story to be made of it ? So many things could have happened. Chelsea could have bid just so they could speak to him, then when they spoke to him they said we want you but wait until January or whatever. In such a situation Everton have lost out on nothing because Chelsea never had any intention of signing him last transfer window.

Bottom line, no one here has a clue yet everyone thinks they got it sussed out.

Ask yourselves this. If this wasn't all completely motivated by selfish needs only with completely no regard for the club.

Why didn't he sign his new contract and therefore guarantee us a higher fee for when all these other clubs came in for him?

Because we all know contracts mean nothing in football, he could have well got the guaranteed fee for him in the situation that Chelsea and the like actually wanted him but instead pushed the club of accepting much less than his value with the only party to gain from it all being Ross Barkley himself
