2017/18 Ross Barkley

Totally unacceptable that the club had an improved contract in front of him for the better part of a year and he didn’t sign it! Unacceptable!
We all hoped he would have signed it, and it's disappointing that he doesn't want to play for us. Loyalty doesn't mean anything in the modern era of football, and Everton FC know this. If they wanted the fee, they should have done more to make him sign the contract or got what they could through a transfer fee when they knew he wasn't signing.

Really wanted him to stay. I like Everton fans and local lads in the team. Thought after Koeman was sacked, that he'd change his mind - obviously not.

It's a shame that Sam won't give the fans a chance to offer Ross a fond (probably boo'ing) farewell.

The only thing I can say for Ross - at least he's kept a silence and not been all over the press saying how he wants to leave. Fair play - but other than that, he's had us under a bus.

we're all knobbers mate ;)

Ask yourselves this. If this wasn't all completely motivated by selfish needs only with completely no regard for the club.

Why didn't he sign his new contract and therefore guarantee us a higher fee for when all these other clubs came in for him?

Because we all know contracts mean nothing in football, he could have well got the guaranteed fee for him in the situation that Chelsea and the like actually wanted him but instead pushed the club of accepting much less than his value with the only party to gain from it all being Ross Barkley himself
I totally agree that his motive is selfish gains, but then again, what footballer isn't motivated by selfish gains? Every footballer has an agent who will try to rinse ever last penny from any club. Every player we have will do that - are they costing us money too?

Barkley's agent has played a blinder. Don't sign the contract, Ross. They will offer you more. If they don't, you can go to a club which will no problem. It's selfish, it's football.

Think I tacked it on to my post after your reply but I don’t think it was politically possible to sell him right then and there.

I think he turned Chelsea down as he wanted Spurs, however he got the bad injury and now Spurs wont risk a bid and he's left with little option now

And I agree with you, but that's been a failure on the clubs half. Sometimes, you have to do what you have to do whether that's sell when the time is right or ensure that player signs that contract. We did neither and are now paying the price.

We won’t even get a chance to boo him as he won’t get a game for Chelsea ... feel a bit sorry for him as he is not the sharpest knife in the draw and suspect a lot of the scheming here has been done by his agent who only cares about money .. Shame but bye bye and enjoy the under 23 team at Chelsea !

I would go as far as to describe him as one of, if not THE, most overrated player in the country.

His backers claim our fans get on his back in an uncalled for manner. I would say the amount of misplaced passes he completes is unbelievable. Even 10 yard passes, if he doesn't misplace them, he drills it in at the striker, at a club where we haven't had a striker with a good touch for years.

He goes missing for massive periods of games, say what you like about Gerrard (and we all do), when did he go missing when playing good or bad? I can hardly think of a game where it has finished and I thought: "Ross ran that game today." Because he never. He is always on the periphery, the classic Match of the Day player.

I won't even vilify him for going missing in derbies like his teammates have, but we all expected at least a 7/10 performance in one single derby from him.

But the worst thing about him is his incurable laziness. The lad does no work off the ball at all, he never ever follows an opposite numbers run, it's like he sees it as beneath him.

It's a shame because who doesn't like a two footed academy graduate? But he is his own worst enemy.

Is there any coincidence that virtually every manager he has had, hasn't trusted him? Moyes: didn't use or trust him in the slightest. Martinez: the one who loved him, to the extent he was playing him when he was stinking the place out, probably to his ultimate detriment. Koeman: never fully trusted him, tried the opposite approach to Martinez with tough love, this didn't work either. Hodgson: never a fan, Ross was the only outfield player not to see any action at Euros, Roy basically said he wouldn't do what was asked of him (rumoured to because he was thought of as thick). Southgate: hasn't bothered his arse with him, even when fit.

He will continue to show glimpses of quality, but he is well passed the age of promising youngsters like Rashford for example, he needs to do it week in, week out, and but for a spell 3/4 years ago, we haven't seen it.

I was gutted when Rooney left, even Arteta, but this has got a bit more of a Rodwell feel for me. Promising player no doubt, but nowhere near as good as he thinks.

You can't "do more" to "make" someone sign if they don't want to sign. This isn't Goodfella's...you can't even threaten young kids with boot washing or they'll lose their minds and make a child abuse claim.

Because that would be idiotic in the extreme even by Barkleys standards.

The other clubs are coming in for him because he’s cheap/free... if he signs a new deal then his value goes from peanuts to huge money.

The irony in your statement is also strong. You’re calling him selfish whilst your yourself are only thinking about Everton’s interests and not the players. Ultimately it’s his life, his career and im sure these things are more important to him than a multi billionaire losing out on a fee. Mosh can dry his tears with £50 notes if need be.

You offer more money or you sell him, simple as that. We didnt sell him when we should and now have a fan base complaining of a low transfer fee.
