Agreed and he wont be coming until we have the Barklay money .... unless we do an I.O.U

I thought it was all money this time last summer. Don't think that at all anymore. Think we just have issues nailing down deals for top players and if we don't get the striker, it will be failings by Walsh and the board in persuading a player or selling club, not money.

people banging on about Barkley in the second half of the season - here's the fixtures, he had a decent run particularly in the home games against the likes of Hull, Bournemouth, WBA, Burnley etc.....he went missing for the last 5 when he was played....had a stinker at the neighbours...so, when you weigh it up, over 38 games he was absolutely nothing exceptional...flat track bully against the lesser sides for me, that is all

Barkley provides tempo. He weighs in with goals and assists.

You know when you watched that lot labouring against a team of Slovakian plumbers the other night for the second time in a week - that's what having Barkley in the team helps avoid.

Davies can provide a lot of dynamism, sure, and he's a good player for that. But Ross and Davies last season combined to make games very difficult for opponents to settle in and we forced them back on the strength of it.

Sigurdsson will give us a few more goals. However, that wont compensate for what will be lost.
Oh, sorry, I thought we were living in the real world where its expected when you bring in 5 new players you expect its going to be a rough learning curve until they start to understand eachother.

But I suppose we can just pretend that playing together for 30-40 matches doesnt matter, its certainly more convenient. With his immense and obvious qualities then, I expect we shall be receiving a 50 million bid shortly. Unless of course, for some strange reason other teams all see him differently...

This is what I mean about Barkley critics being misinformed. They always boil down his impact on a team to the headline figures of goals and assists.

The reality is he offers a ridiculous amount beyond those two end stats, such as carrying the tempo of the game (as davek points out), intelligently moving into space, freeing up room for others in the process, taking a ball to feet, getting teammates around him in support by holding play, passing forward to transition into the final third etc. etc. etc.

He was the lynchpin of our team last season.

Yeah yeah he's Messi now he is leaving!

He's a decent player mate, that is all.

I see the Sigurdsson only good for set pieces myth is still being perpetuated by some

Nah it's more the idea he's a direct replacement for Barkley. That's a bigger myth - completely different player. They arguably don't even really play in the same position for most of any given game, they're that different.

Sigurdsson is good - exceptional in some areas - but he's not going to offer what Barkley does to a team. He'll offer something different, but I doubt it'll be better. Especially given that with Ross gone our entire attacking spine has been ripped away in one go.

It hasn't dropped, his output was actually extremely good last season. Lukaku was far worse as an actual footballer in that team. Incredible goalscorer, pedestrian footballer.
I don't have the stats to hand, but surely in past seasons he's scored & assisted more. I like the fact he defensively did more, but for another season- his decision making when it comes to through balls is woeful- he hesitates that slight second then messes it up.. him, Siggy & Rooney interchanging- with Giroud ahead would of been sexual.
I would love to hear actually what is going on, from him. #stayRoss

No excuses. Get the job done or do one.

If we replace him, we won't miss him, simples!

As DaveK kept saying at the time you speak of, once we were out the cup and had no pressure on us, and we had a decent run of games, it's hardly surprising he did well as he is generally a choker in games that mean anything.

5 goals and 8 assists is easily replaced mate, step forward Mr Iceland.
Majority of his best games have come against the top sides and he would of won us a semi final away to city if our manger didn't have the same level of football intelligence as you.

This is my opinion too.

Holds onto the ball too long as well so when he finally releases it the pass had gone and passes it straight to the opposition so much

And again. It baffles me why people rely on two stats that don't tell you much to completely judge the output of a footballer. Especially when said stats can be affected by the ball bouncing off someones arse from an initial cross/shot and be counted as an assist/goal.

Yet he ran the ball more often and had better retained possession stats than Gylfi last season. Much better in both departments by the way.

The goal stats (as I mention above) work out closer than you'd expect too when stripped of pens: 6 per season for Sigurdsson; 5 per season for Barkley.
