Had the usual great few weeks following by not going much for the last 2 weeks, for various reasons
I came 19th in a 10k night race, out of 700 which I was well happy with. But it's been pretty crap since
So frustrating but always seems the way
Thanks mate appreciate the advice.a) what is your weekly mileage? if its low keep building and no tempo/speed work until you get some 10-12+ long runs and/or 20+ miles/week in
b) you need core work - find some 10-20 min pilates (pilates for runners) on the youtubes and do it. at least 2X week. I go to a 50 min pilates class 1x/week its not cheap but cheaper than PT. Its also not a quick fix it takes a few months to build muscle but I actually have a core now that can absorb punishment.
Often knee pain is IT band pain (pulling/pain on the knee when you land) which comes from a weak core/hips. The cure is just 4-6 weeks of rest but you can probably say walk hills or something as long as the pain is minimal.
With older runners muscles can be built up in your 50s, but your tendons/ligaments will continue to age and break down, so its up to your muscles to pick up the slack.
Hi, i hope you don't mind jumping on this, but i believe collagen supplements may help with joint pain. I am 50, run, but as yet fortunately i don't have knee pain, but was advised to take collagen because of my age, and the amount of running i do.. anyway, hope your pain eases... however you deal with it.I'm a couple of years younger than you and also get a bit of pain in my knee, especially if I run anything over 10km. I find doing light weights in the gym to build up strength around the knee works well.
I've given up veterans football too as that really was destroying my knee. I blame the 4G pitches.
I also take cod liver oil but not sure if that's a placebo thing. Seems to help though.
I really like the 5k Park runs, seems a sensible distance and getting a proper time each week gives some healthy competition to the run. Was absolutely Baltic yesterday, though.
Thanks for the info - I'll certainly look into the collagen.Hi, i hope you don't mind jumping on this, but i believe collagen supplements may help with joint pain. Yes I agree with every sentiment here, hopefully you can continue as long as, even if a couple of milesThanks for the info - I'll certainly look into the collagen.
I don't have much cartilage in my one knee as I tore it quite badly in my late 20s playing footie. So hope that might help.
I really enjoy running so want to keep it going at a fairly decent speed for as long as I can.
I had acupuncture for the very same, and along with using the massage ball it was absolutely brilliant. Not had any issues for 3 years now.Been suffering the last week with plantar fasciltis, really been training great and didn't want to completely rest it and lose my groove. Bought one of those massage balls from decathlon and its been a game changer, along with stretching my achillies properly

I had PF for about 8 months about 8 or 9 years ago, I could have written a PhD on the subject the amount of research I did . In the end I needed about 10 sessions of acupuncture from an old Chinese lady to break it. Having needles jabbed into the soles of your feet was not pleasant! For me it was the calfs that I believe caused the problem, I regularly foam roller them and treat PF like something I’ve still got that could come back and bite me if I don’t .I had acupuncture for the very same, and along with using the massage ball it was absolutely brilliant.
