Running

After many months since my last one, did the local 5k parkrun yesterday, clocking 19:14. Pleased with that considering I didn't want to go at it 'eyeballs out'. Rewarded myself with an afternoon of ale drinking
That's a fast time for a 5k. You have obviously not lost all your fitness from your time off. Do you reckon you could get faster over the following weeks?

It does leave me wondering if I can go under 19minutes. Need to up the mileage steadily to get ready for the summer season, balancing that with achilles pain.

Knocking 15 secs off your time is a great target which should be achievable , sounds like you’re on the right track upping the steady mileage , and throw in a few specific speed sessions when you’re ready. The” Age grading” system in parkrun is a great target too , I reckon 70% is a pretty decent target which usually requires a bit of working towards!

Absolutely no chance of me ever getting a PB in the summer, might as well run into a brick wall for me lol

I tend to actually run slower in the summer which I like, as I definitely run too fast day to day. I try to get some slower ones in but I'm just not very good at it

I pulled a hamstring in August doing sprint training and it just hasn't been right since. Even when walking a can get a dull throb right in the centre of my right buttock. Oddly I have no twinges at all when out on the mountain bike.

Rolling it with a tennis ball and performing stretches eases the pain but it just comes back again when I start walking again. I might have to bite the bullet and book a physio session.

Have you tried a heat pad of some sort, just when sitting of an evening. Might help.
But yes it would seem that physio is your next option

Yes I know what you mean. The odd occasion I go out with the missus, although i do my bit, just doesn't feel I've had a decent run out 😆.

How about some f@rtlek sessions, to force the slower sections

Heat pad and sitting. I like the sound of that.

To keep in with the running community while I've been injured I've volunteered each week at my local Parkrun. This coming weekend will be my 50th. Well chuffed with that.

Could be “ Upper hamstring tendinopathy “ but obviously needs a physio to diagnose, not some random on GOT!
Have a look at some of the rehab techniques for strengthening the area , Romanian Dead Lifts is often recommended.

Sounds to me like tendinitus mate.

Have a look at the symptoms and see what you think ?

I developed mild hamstring pain doing hill sprints, as part of training for a marathon in 2020.

I didn`t rest it, as I didn`t want to compromise my training plan and it eventually turned into tendinitus, which I`ve had ever since.

The symptoms you describe there, almost mirror mine.

It doesn`t stop me from running, as it`s just a dull ache more than anything and I`ve learnt to live with it.

The only cure I can see, is to stop running until it`s gone, which I`m never going to do lol

Yep its a dull ache that can move from the centre of my right buttock to just below the buttock. Only feel it when walking/running, never when cycling (standing or sitting). What @blueloon suggested seems pretty close too so I'm going to try some tests I've found to see if I can work this out further. 6 months without running is tough. Especially on the waistline lol

I use a hot water bottle on mine every night mate and a neoprene thigh support bandage for mine.

It doesn’t cure it, but makes it manageable.

I’m used to it now and it doesn‘t stop me from running.

Been suffering the last week with plantar fasciltis, really been training great and didn't want to completely rest it and lose my groove. Bought one of those massage balls from decathlon and its been a game changer, along with stretching my achillies properly

PF is what first derailed me. It's hard to manage rest and keeping active and I just quit running for months. Work hard at recovery and good luck.
