Running

Should have been running Inverness 1/2 marathon today but a back spasm on Friday is preventing me running. This old age is a bummer 🤷‍♂️. A “ not my fault injury” , I think! , now waiting to see how the next few days develop as I’ve entered a 20 miler next Saturday, all part of my marathon training, so very frustrating ☹️

Currently looking for some trail shoes, ideally a hybrid I can use on road too, any suggestions?
I bought some Scarpa before Xmas, and I've had achilles pain on one side, so staying away from them. Just not sure about this heel to toe drop stuff and if that could be impacting it. I've been a road runner all my life, but much prefer being off road now, with a few Lakeland trail runs lined up this year.
I’ll second the recommendation for Hoka Challenger ATR. I use them for cross country, trail runs, orienteering and if I’m doing an interval session in a playing field I can also do a two mile warm up on the road without issue. In slippy conditions their grip is not as good as Innovate8s but a great all round shoe.

Hoka Challenger are the ones mate .
Their the trail version of the Clifton’s.

They’re perfect for things like grass, forest trails and you can use them on the road too.

Their next to useless on heavy ground, but they’re not designed for use when the grounds like that.

They take a bit of getting used to, with them being so cushioned, but once you’re used to them, it’s like wearing pillows on your feet !

I always have at least one pair on the go.

As always with Hoka, always go at least half a size up.
Thanks mate, just reviewing the 6 v 7 ( obviously there's the price difference too).

Been an ASICS roadie forever, so yes will take some getting used to. Seems like the majority of the Lakeland runs are a mix of trail, so should be good enough.

Cheers for the information

Good to know, the best i can hope for in terms of off-road are river banks, but road/path to get there.
Have to mention it to the missus, what with my birthday this month 😆

Good luck with the back clearing up, in time for the big 20 miler. I had the privilege of watching the missus do a 20 mile race today in the soaking wet...hard work this spectating

Nearly all of the Lakeland Trails events are doable in trail shoes if it’s been reasonably dry.

I usually take a pair of fell shoes with me too, as it can hammer down overnight and completely change the course, which has caught me out a couple of times in the past too.

Coming over to Liverpool for the weekend (was supposed to be for the derby 🙄) , doing the half marathon on Sunday while I'm over.
Any on here doing it?
Any tips on the course, the start/finish etc, theres 9000 doing it so I expect it's pretty hectic/busy for first few miles until it thins out?

I did my first 20 mile race since 1989 today! “ 20 Along the Forth “ just north of Edinburgh . About 6 miles were on hard / muddy trails , the rest on paths. It was a cracking day with good views of all over the Forth . Hard work as ever , made easier by teaming up at 5 miles with two ladies who were running together at my pace. We chatted on and off until about 17 miles when I deliberately walked a few hills. A great event and I wax 1st V70 which was nice.

No course knowledge but it’ll be good to hear what you thought afterwards

Best of luck

Good day. Not a bad course although maybe a few too many twists and turns especially near the end. The path along the docks near the end could've been cordoned off a wee bit better to avoid walkers and spectators on the course.

But that's me maybe being too negative, was a good day, stayed dry and got it done in 1 hour 28 mins which i was more than happy with.
