The fact that he’s had to bring in a psychologist and a performance director begs the question wtf were Koeman and Walsh doing? Both of those things should be in Walsh’s remit.

As it is it looks as though Walsh has now gone back into a recruitment role and Allardyce is combining manager and director of football.

Seriously though how can a supposedly top end team not have these basic things in place?

If the least Sam does is drag us into the 21st century it will be time well spent. For the first time since Irvine we actually have assistant coaches that do something on a match day.

The Allardyce reign will probably be characterised at first by relief and then by a cross between apathy and frustration. Basically a short version of Moyes's years. The fans will almost undoubtedly clamour for a more fashionable manager to 'take us to the next level'.

The two questions countering that probable path are: can he go one better than he has previously, or is he fundamentally limited by his own style (as Moyes was)? And will the board get rid of him before that second phase properly sets in or will they give him extra time if it's going OK?

Alright mushes I am really enjoy this acceptance stage you are going through with Allardyce.

I dont think he has the ability to do that, tbh.

He'll adapt his team and tactics to the opposition and get draws where we weren't supposed to get them and a few hard fought wins. But to be up there at the top end of the table a team needs to have an identity of its own, not just a team that looks at others and figures out how to spoil their game...which is Allardyce's forte.

He's a bit long in the tooth now to learn new tricks.
That's Mourinho's forte as well Dave. He's done okay .

I'm very relaxed about his appointment. I hope to see him put together for us two strong derby showings and a top 10 finish.

I'd rather he was here than Koeman, let's put it that way.

Some people are getting worked up about him, and I understand that. But he's destined to be here about 6-12 months and it's pointless getting worked up over that.

It's not Allardyce's fault that the board at this club are an unmitigated embarrassment and a disaster.
If he does well I’d have no qualms if he was here a lot longer than that.

He clearly has a genuine affection and pride at being Everton manager which shows.

I’d hate for him to do well, and be binned off because he’s not foreign.

I believe that the BFS years will be looked on as a strange short interlude many years into the future by ageing Evertonians, and none of the yet-to-be-born Evertonians will ever believe half of it.

I think that is more us covering our back sorry pockets, in case it doesn't work out, we have just been stung twice with failed managers on long term contracts, not rocket science to understand the logic behind the 18months. It's basically saying show us you can earn another contract.

Pure guesswork, from all of us.

The ony fact here, is its a short term deal.
