To be fair mate you don’t know for certain what Sams limits are considering he’s always worked with tripe players at tripe clubs.

I’m not saying he can break us into the elite but I won’t be pre judging him based on his past teams that’s for sure.
I'm not against him being here. I just have the evidence of his entire career in front of me, and though it's true he's had some quality players at certain points who he's been happy to utilise, his default position is to make sure the opposition dont play and to capitalise on what chances can be created.

I doubt we'll see us running up chance after chance and flowing football from a feller set in those ways and brought out of retirement for one last hurrah.

He;s here, he's accepted - but lets not get carried away.

Look at the opposition.

To do what others in this thread have argued he can do: use Everton to trouble the elite, that sort of one dimensional thinking wont take us near 5th and 6th.

Won’t take us to 12th consecutively either.

Until Guardiola and Mourinho move on then there will only be 5 spots to play for in the top 7. They are the world’s two best managers with the world’s two biggest transfer budgets. Now they have settled they will dominate until they leave. Chelsea have their best manager in the prem era apart from Mourinho. Spurs have their best manager in the prem era. Liverpool will argue they have their best manager. Wenger is not shackled by budgets anymore.

Allardyce could have whatever skill set he wants he’s not getting this squad up there this season or most likely next.

What we want to ensure is that in 2-3 seasons time when some of the top 6 managers have gone (all apart from Mourinho could plausibly have gone and been replaced with inferior managers) and our young players are in their prime, we have a manager who can take advantage and do what Pochettino has done with Spurs to try and embed us in that top 4.

He's once hit the dizzying heights of 8th in this league, the rest of the time he's fallen way short of that.

Honestly, I think some here need to get themselves a massive reality check on this manager and his capabilities.

I'm happy enough for now he's here. I have no axe to grind. But the claims being made on his behalf are pretty outrageous.

The first few defeats we have under him will cure people of this nonsense.

I understand that mate but some of the best managers in the world do what i bolded - most of which have a far better squad than us, so it’s not really a point.

I also have no loyalty either way but like I have said I will judge him on what he does at Everton only.

..I actually think he’ll be very dependent on Shakespeare and Lee to set out the tactical strategy. To this end, it’s why he wanted them here. Sure he’s the manager and will have the final say, but I think he’s boxed much of the leg work off.

Not disagreeing with what you say I just think it’s unfair that after the last two managers have brought the ‘R’ word back into Evertonian vocabulary, this one has been here one game and people are already moaning about a glass ceiling.

It’s ridiculous. There’s a set of fans that care more about other fans and the media’s perception of us than the reality of our results. They’d rather follow Martinez Fonseca or Silva into a relegation battle than admit Moyes did well getting consistent top 7 finishes. If Allardyce comes 7-9th there’ll be nothing but ‘glass ceiling, limited etc etc.’ If we got a manager in with a reputation for decent football they invent the argument that they have the skills to break the ceiling the problem is the players won’t play for them.

Allardyce will live or die on his results. Why some fans are already pre arming their arguments even if he’s successful is beyond me.

If he gets top 7 and a cup run after the hospital pass he was given no on here should be complaining at all.

Maybe let's give him an opportunity to show us what he can do at a bigger club with better players. His remit with most clubs is keep us safe on minimum money. His remit here is 'show us what you can do'. With Bolton he built a good team over the years and made them a stable Premier League club, they didn't do too good after he left did they.

He's always done what was expected of him, here he has a chance to prove people wrong.

Also, his man management skills are just what is needed at the minute.

We as a fanbase can't be level headed. It's either hyperbole or downright nastiness from us.

We go from one extreme to another.

He’s finished 6th and 7th with Bolton.
